AURORA’S POV Things were moving quickly. Today was the ball party, the day we would meet our mate. I stood on the balcony, taking a deep breath, feeling the cool breeze caress my skin. The anticipation was almost unbearable, feeling excited and nerves swirling in my chest. "Mother, wherever you are, I'm finally going to have my mate and wolf," I murmured, my voice feeling tired and stressed. The weight of years of mistreatment pressed heavily on my shoulders. I couldn't wait to leave this house; the treatment I got was enough. I moved away from the balcony towards my room, my heart pounding with a mix of excitement and anxiety. When the door opened wide, "Oh, Moon Goddess," Alicia exclaimed, spinning around the whole room with an exaggerated flourish. I rolled my eyes, feeling a familiar irritation rise within me. "What is it this time?" I didn't know when those words dropped out of my mouth. She paused with her mischievous grin, scanning through my body as if searching for a weakness. "You know what, I'm so happy we are all going to go our separate ways," she remarked, taking a step closer to me, her eyes gleaming with malice. "I can't wait to leave you and stop sharing this room with you, so disgusting," she added with a smirk. I folded my knuckles in anger, my nails digging into my palms. I didn't want to retaliate, but I had enough. Tonight, after getting my mate, I promised to say my words back after all these years. "Orion will be mine," she shouted, collapsing on the bed with a dramatic flair. A hiss escaped my lips. Aurora was my half-sister. We both shared the same father but different mothers As I dressed for the ball, my fingers brushed against the locket my mother had given me. I remembered the day she died, the pain and emptiness that followed. My father's attempt to fill the void by remarrying had only made things worse. I recalled the argument we had when he announced his engagement to Alicia's mother. I felt betrayed, as if he was erasing my mother's memory. The tension between us had grown thicker than the castle walls. I went towards my wardrobe, grabbing my clothes from it. There was my beautiful gown made with pearls. I whispered a silent prayer, my fingers trembling slightly. "Oh, Moon Goddess, let my mate be good and caring." With my eyes closed, a scoff interrupted. It was her again. "Funny you, you will never find any sweet mate," Alicia's words sounded like venom, each syllable dripping with spite. "Do not get on my nerves," I replied, my voice raising a little bit, trying to keep my composure. "I will and you will do nothing," she spat, her eyes narrowing. I stood up firmly, finally spitting out my words, "Don't you think I don't know how you mess around with Orion, who isn't your mate yet..." Before I could finish my words, a slap echoed across my cheeks, the sting spreading like wildfire. Placing my hand on my cheek, "Don't you dare ever utter that. Orion will be my mate forever," she yelled, walking out of the room, slamming the door behind her. Orion was our childhood friend who we played with. He was the soon-to-be alpha of the New Moon Pack. He was kind of okay and all, but Alicia often flirted with him, which wasn't meant to be. Hiding her secrets, she had the guts to slap my face. "Let me have my mate till my revenge," I whispered, my resolve hardening. The night came in quickly, and I dressed in my beautiful gown. It was time for us to leave the house for the ball. The carriage was waiting for everyone. I stepped down the stairs only to find the entire sitting room empty. "Where are they?" I muttered, Walking out of the sitting room, I noticed Mother's carriage wasn't there at all, not even the servants. I gasped, realizing they had left me alone. "I need to do something," I whispered to myself. Running out and dashing towards the road, a horse-drawn carriage appeared right in front of me. "Come on, move away," the driver barked. "Please help me to the palace," I pleaded. "Move away!! Before my boss gets angry," he yelled. "Please," I begged again. This time, a deep voice sounded, clearing his throat. He came down from the carriage, tall, huge, muscular, and handsome. The guy was right in front of me, and that was Orion. I gasped, my eyes locking onto the full moon that had already risen. Heat began to fill me. I didn't understand what was happening. Finally, I could feel my wolf within me, wishing and giggling from the inside. "My mate," she whispered inside. My eyes glittered along with Orion's. The urge to jump on him and hug him was overwhelming. "You are my mate," he said, confused. I knew I was in new danger, that of a childhood sweetheart. What was going to happen? I asked myself, restraining my wolf from taking control. She was giving me a deep urge to hug him. Pushed by my wolf, I went towards him, wrapping my hands around his waist. I kissed him passionately, fulfilling my wolf's urge. It felt like flowers were blooming in my stomach, making me feel happy. "What's happening here?" A voice angrily yelled out, cutting me off. I turned to look, and it was Alicia. "I can explain everything," Orion stammered, feeling dumb and having nothing to say. I stood there speechless. "Orion, my sister!!" she yelled. "That's my sister for moon's sake," she cried. "I know I never loved you for once. Is this what you want to do?" She asked me, tears dripping down her eyes. ‘’How could you do this to me, Aurora? She whispered, her voice trembling, ‘’I thought we were sisters, despite everything’’ "I can explain, Alicia. It's not what you think..." Before I could say anything, Orion's deep voice interrupted. "She is my mate," he declared, as if his voice had an agreement with the thunder striking, the rain began to pour heavily. "No, that can't be," she screamed. "What am I supposed to do? I'm sorry, Alicia," I whispered gently. "Don't you dare say sorry," she screamed like a crazy freak whose something precious to her was taken. Her hand came towards me, but Orion gripped it. "That's enough, Alicia," he yelled. Confused about what I was going to do, it was never my intention to have my sister's childhood sweetheart as my mate at all. "Let go of me, Orion. Let me slap that low-life wretch," she spat, my blood boiling. I could feel my mate getting angry as well. "I've had enough. Don't you ever call me that. He is my mate, Alicia!" I yelled.
