I just could not understand why the maids were trying to stop me. They didn’t want me out of the room. I should have suspected them the very moment they began to stare at each other when they were bathing me.
“What is the matter? Why should I not go out?” I questioned, looking at them both but they were quiet. They bowed their heads, trying not to look at me.
Did they want me to stay with them and play with them all day? I understood they wanted my presence and would not be happy if I married Marcus but I had to do what I wanted to.
I hissed and walked to the door. With a smile on my face, I opened the door to go out. I had to comfort my sister and make her know all would be fine.
If I had to marry Marcus in her stead, then I would do it. I just didn’t want her worried or upset.
I was even more shocked when the guards stood in front of me, not willing to let me go. I was taken aback as I did not understand what was going on.
“What is the matter?” I questioned, looking at them. I was disappointed. How dare they try to stop me?
“I am very sorry ma’am but it is a royal decree” One of the guards bowed.
Royal decree? A royal decree to stand in my way and not let me out of my room? It did not make any sense to me. What was going on? I turned back to look at Yvette and Yvonne, They were on their knees sobbing. I was…. Heartbroken.
Did they know something? Yet again, I was betrayed. I was so upset and turned to them.
“Does anyone care to explain what is going on here?” I yelled.
“The heiress had ordered us not to let you out” One of the guards answered, of course, bowing.
Was this a joke? My sister? Why would she say that? I tried to move again to ask her why she said so but again, I was stopped. Was that happening?
“Why has Kayla asked you not to let me out?” I crossed my arms and turned to Yvette and Yvonne.
They disgusted me that very minute.
The last thing I had expected was their betrayal.
Not again.
“Marcus..” Yvette managed to speak up. What about him? I wondered as I raised my brows. There had to be something. “Marcus is around” They announced.
My heart ceased to beat for a second and my eyes widened in shock. What was going on? Kayla had ordered for me to be locked up so she could marry Marcus without interference from me. No, I had to stop them.
I tried to move forward again but the guards were quick to stop me, bowing right in front of me.
“How dare you! I order you all to leave here immediately!” I yelled in anger but they were not ready to let me go. They simply stood, transfixed on a spot like they had not heard what they said.
“We are very sorry, your majesty. We got a royal decree to not let you leave and until it is revoked, we cannot allow you to leave”
Anger welled up in me that very minute but immediately, it transitioned to tears. I was deeply hurt. I had to do something.
I could not imagine my sister getting married to the monster.
Kayla’s POV
“Your Highness, Marcus is around” One of the maids announced as I made my hair. For reasons unknown, I wanted to make my hair today itself. I had to get accustomed to it.
What if I had no maid at Marcus’ place? Marcus was known to be very brutal so the chances were high that he would not allow me to have a maid.
I nodded at the maid and then looked at the reflection in the mirror. Sadness was boldly written all over my face. I died immediately.
Living with Marcus was like selling my soul to the devil but I could not put my sister’s and the whole pack’s life at stake. If Marcus didn’t get me, he was going to go after my sister. If he could not get her, he would destroy our pack.
Violet... My heart raced at the thought of her. Vee was not so easy of a lady. She was going to ruin everything if she comes to see Marcus.
She could get Marcus upset and he would kill everyone. No. I was not going to allow that. I had to think of a way to stop her as soon as possible.
“Nia” I looked up at one of the maids. Immediately, Nia bowed and walked closer to me.
“Get Vivie’s breakfast and take it to her room. Inform her that the dining room is under construction for the preparation of our guest” She bowed and nodded.
Just then, I sighted Yvonne and Yvette giggling and chatting as they headed to Violet's room. Immediately, I beckoned on one of the maids to call them in.
“How well do you love Vivie?” I stood up and walked to them, holding their shoulder. They were shocked as they had least expected it.
They looked at each other in confusion. I already knew what their answer would be. Aside from me, Father and Mother, they were the next set of people who could lay down their lives for her.
“Marcus is around. You must not tell Vivie about this” I looked them in the eyes and they both nodded. Good.
“What if she comes out? What if she finds out he is around?” Yvette questioned, trembling. I was even gentler than Violet yet she feared me more than she feared Violet.
“We have to stop her and that is left to you ladies” I turned my back to them. “Violet is desperate to save me and as such, is proposing marriage to Marcus in my stead” They gasped at this revelation.
Of course, that was what I wanted and that was the reaction I awaited. I know they would not want it.
As sad as it may sound, they would prefer Vivie to marry Marcus than me because they loved me so much.
Of course, if there was any help they could proffer to get her out of the mess, they would do it but at this point, there was nothing they could do.
“I will deploy guards if she tries to overpower you both and leave the room but while in the room, do your possible best to distract her from coming outside” I ordered and then turned to look at them.
“We understand” They bowed and left at my approval. That was settled.
I immediately deployed some guards to watch over Violet's room.
She could not get out of there no matter how hard she tried because I knew she could not defeat the guards.
Satisfied that everything was in order, I walked out of the room, trying my possible best to remain as calm as possible when in reality, all I wanted to do was cry.
I was hurting deep within and it was painful there was nothing we could do. My mate. I was going to miss him so much.
Rejecting him was going to be so difficult for him as well as for me but if that was the price I had to pay for the safety of the pack, then I was willing to pay it.
Like the royalty that I am, I tread the steps gently, down to the living room. The tables were set, breakfast was set as well and as expected, Mother, Father, and Marcus were sitting on it.
Marcus sat on the end of the table like he was the owner. I was upset but there was nothing I could do.
A smile formed on his face as he looked at me. I pretended not to see him and then sat by Mother’s side. Mother looked surprised as she looked around, perhaps, searching for Violet.
Vivie had not found her mate hence Mother had believed it would be easier for her to accept Marcus since she had not found her mate and she would not feel the pain of rejecting a mate.
Father looked shocked too as I was the only one there. I was the heir to the throne so they wanted me to stay at all costs.
“Good morning, Mother and Father” I bowed.
“Good morning” They muttered with questioning eyes. I smiled at them and then, diverted my gaze to Marcus.
“I will marry you.” I dropped the news, shocking Mother and Father but not Marcus. He simply had a smile on his face like he had presumed it.
Mother and Father’s eyes widened in shock. Perhaps, that was the last thing they had expected to hear.
I had lied to them the previous night that Violet had agreed to marry him. Well, I didn’t lie. She had but I was not going to let it happen.
“What are you saying? What are you doing?” Mother questioned. I understood their shock.
I was the heir to the throne as I was the first female and they would not want anything to happen to me but my sister had risked her life for me severally. If this was the only thing I could do, then so be it.
“I guess she is mistaken, can you give us a minute to discuss this with her?” Father questioned, a mixture of rage and fear on his face.
“There is nothing to talk about, Father,” I answered immediately. “I cannot sacrifice my sister’s happiness.
Make her the heir when I am gone. I will marry Marcus” I answered without batting an eyelid.
“That is so thoughtful of you” Marcus finally answered with a smile on my face. “But.. I do not want you anymore. I want your sister”
Did I hear him right? My eyes widened in shock. Never, I was not going to allow my sister to marry him. Father and Mother seemed a bit satisfied although shocked.
“You have come here for me and me you shall have. You shall not have my sister” I answered immediately. There was possibly no way he could get to her.
“Really?” He giggled. Just then, Violet came from nowhere, panting. The maids were after her, trying to stop her. How did they let her out?
No, there was nothing I could do anymore.
“Such a smart move, sister. You failed” She scoffed and then turned to Marcus.
“I would marry you” She answered with a grin on her face. Marcus smiled. “But one on a condition” She added. He nodded as he awaited her response.
“I challenge you to a fighting duel. If I win, then this marriage is nullified”
He smiled and then stood up, walking close to her.
“And if I win… “ He smiled and walked a little farther from her. “You would be nothing to me but a s*x slave”
My eyes widened in shock and so did Father and Mother. What was Violet doing? There was no way she could defeat Marcus.
“Agreed”
