CH 17 Celestial Game Hunt

Chapter 17: The Whisper in the Flame Yuuto crouched by the scorched remains of what used to be a prayer bell tower. Smoke curled into the night sky, thick with ash and sorrow. The village had been peaceful mere hours ago. Now, only ruins and echoes of screams remained. "They came from the skies," murmured a villager, bloodied and trembling. "Wings of shadow... blades of fire..." Lyra stood behind Yuuto, her expression grim. The feather insignia glowing faintly on her glove pulsed with urgency. "This was no ordinary attack. This was a message." Yuuto nodded. He could feel it too. The Celestial Hunt had entered a darker phase. The System Interface blinked to life: [Alert: Celestial Beacon Detected — Rank B Threat Approaching] He clenched his fists. "We can't let this happen again." A low hum vibrated the air. Rei, having scouted ahead, returned with haste. His cloak fluttered behind him, his eyes lit with the pale glow of a nearby relic. "There’s a survivor. A child. Hiding in the shrine cellar." Without a word, Yuuto and Lyra followed him to the collapsed structure. Beneath shattered floorboards and sacred debris, a child no older than six huddled, clutching a broken charm. Yuuto knelt and gently took the charm. It resonated faintly in his hand, pulsing with traces of divine energy. His Third Eye flickered open for a moment, revealing a thin line of celestial energy threading from the charm to the mountains beyond. "This child’s presence is no coincidence," Lyra whispered. "He was protected. Possibly marked." The child whimpered. "The flame... it spoke to me. It said you'd come." Yuuto exchanged a glance with Lyra. The Hunt's mysteries were deepening. --- As night swallowed the horizon, the trio reached an old observatory hidden in the cliffs. It was where the celestial beacon had last been seen. The air buzzed with old magic. The stars above seemed unnaturally close. Rei stepped ahead. "The beacon was activated intentionally. Someone wanted us to see this." Suddenly, flames roared to life in the heart of the observatory. Ancient runes on the walls ignited. A figure stepped out of the fire—a projection, not fully present. It was cloaked in robes adorned with constellations. Its voice was disembodied yet familiar. "Seeker of Feathers, bearer of the Mark of the Wanderer," it said, addressing Yuuto. "You are late." Yuuto bristled. "Who are you?" "A Herald. Of the old realm. One who remembers the stars before they fell." The Herald lifted a burning hand, revealing a map of constellations. One of them shimmered violently. "The Flame Constellation is fractured. One of the Celestial Kings has awakened." Lyra stepped forward. "The Kings were sealed. This shouldn't be possible." "Unless someone has begun breaking the seals," Rei added. The Herald nodded solemnly. "And that someone seeks to claim the throne of Divinity itself. You must choose your path, Yuuto Kamizaki. Every step you take now determines not just fate, but the structure of the skies." Yuuto’s eyes narrowed. The image of the destroyed village burned in his mind. "Then I’ll hunt. I’ll stop whoever is doing this." "You’ll need more than resolve," the Herald warned. "You’ll need allies. And you’ll need to survive the trials that come next." With that, the flame dimmed. Silence returned to the observatory. --- Later that night, Yuuto sat alone beneath the stars, the child sleeping safely near the fire. Lyra approached and sat beside him. "You did well today," she said. "Did I? I couldn’t stop the attack. Couldn’t save the village." She placed a hand over his. "But you saved the child. And you didn’t break. That matters more than you know." He looked at her. "Do you ever wonder why we were chosen? Why this power found us?" Lyra smiled faintly. "I used to. But now... I think we were broken enough to be rebuilt into something greater." Yuuto looked to the heavens. The stars pulsed gently, like a heart calling out to him. "Then let’s rebuild the sky," he whispered. And in that moment, the wind carried a faint whisper—one only Yuuto could hear. "The Hunt has only just begun." --- [End of Chapter 17]
