Daniel decided to follow him, so he crossed the river, stepping carefully through the cold water. Just as he reached the far side, a big man, arms tied behind his back, stepped out in front of him. He was wearing a leather jacket, homespun trousers and leather boots. One of the boots swung up and caught him in the groin; he buckled over and fell to the ground.
