‘Flares!’ A shower of burning light exploded from Fan’s suit and the missile chasing him swerved away, fooled by the intense heat, but the explosion was still close enough that shrapnel peppered his suit, puncturing the wings. His breath came in short gasps and panic was rising within him. He juked and jinked every which way he could think of, but there was no outrunning the more powerful Echo unit pursuing him. Warning alerts flashed constantly, and his vision blurred as he pushed the BANDIT suit to its limits. He grunted with exertion and performed a violent barrel roll in a desperate attempt to avoid the endless barrage from the Echo’s cannons. Several rounds came close to finishing him off, and their concussive blasts took a heavy toll on his suit.
