Cayden hadn't been kidding when he said this was an extremely high-strung case. However, he failed to mention that we would be working alongside Senator Nickels' own private legal team as well. Judging from the energy in the room, they were none too pleased to have us working alongside them. The air was tense, and cold stares were all around. I suppose I understood their frustration. They had been working for the senator for years, and now another team was sharing the job they had been hired to do. It would make anyone feel like they were being seen as incompetent.
"Welcome to Hell," Cayden mumbled as he surveyed the large open floor office that had been cleared specifically for this case. Anyone assigned to the team was strictly prohibited from the floor entirely.
