Crane's POV.
Gazing into the mirror, the swelling in my eyes was a clear indicator that my health was deteriorating.
"My life is shortened," I murmured, solemnly.
I moved away from the mirror and sat down on my bed. A whirlwind of thoughts was crossing my mind; everything just seemed so overwhelming, and I felt like I was losing control. I longed for a way to end it all and leave everything to my half-brother.
Resolute in my decision, I stood up and headed outside, intent on driving off a cliff and ending my life. Yet, as I reached the wild, my determination wavered. I stepped out of the car, wanting to take one last look at the wild before carrying out my plan.
Suddenly, I heard a labored breathing, like that of someone who had been assaulted. Quickly, I followed the sound and discovered a body lying, barely alive, in the wilderness. Though I couldn't make out the face clearly, I recognized the urgent need to help her. I know I just have 3 months to live and I'm tired of everything but I can't just let anyone die like this.
“Who stabbed you?!” I asked but figured she wasn't strong enough to answer.
Without hesitation, I rushed to get her into my car and sped towards the hospital.
About a few hours later, she was awake and well. I wanted to see her, so I entered the room she was in, alongside the doctor, gaining her attention.
Looking at the way she gazed at me, her eyes were captivating. I found myself mesmerized by her beauty, unable to look away. Although she was unwell, her eyes still had a youthful, vibrant glow. Despite her dry lips, there was an endearing quality to her appearance. Why would such beauty be found in such a condition?
Quickly, I cleared my throat, regaining my composure. She blinked again, twice, then shifted her gaze to the window, I believe she was looking at nothing in particular. Her eyes were so stuck outside filled with sadness.
I sensed she was reluctant to discuss whatever was the case, but I felt compelled to reach out.
"I need some rest, doctor," she mumbled, and the doctor nodded in understanding.
It was unclear whether she realized I was the one who had brought her here. She's so indifferent about everything, like she doesn't even feel like seeing the sunlight, something I assume someone that just got treated would want to see.
"I know you do." I said, leaning closer to her. "But I need to know. You were half dead when I saw you. Who did that to you?”
“You should have just left me." She mumbled, calmly. I looked at her strangely, I saw pains in her eyes and I knew something wasn't right. I stood still and walked closer to the doctor.
"How's she?" I whispered.
"She's fine. Since the surgery went well, she'll be alright. She just needs to rest." I asked the doctor to leave and walked gradually to sit in the chair close to her bed. I can see discomfort in her eyes and movements but I can't just leave her here alone. Who could be after her life? Why doesn't she want to speak about it? Why did she look so scared, when I asked her who tried to kill her? I exhaled, crossing my leg.
She kept stealing glances at me as I glanced through my phone like I had important information I was focused on. I know she has lots of questions going through her mind, I do too but I need her to recover.
"I have mixed emotions right now, I don't know if I should thank you or hate you." She said bringing me out of my thoughts.
"Thank me or hate me?" I mumbled. What does she mean by that? I stared at her, taking my gaze off my cell phone.
"Huh?" I asked audibly for clarity, raising one of my eyebrows.
"I doubt I should thank you." She said, rolling her eyes.
"Is there something wrong?" I asked and she rolled her eyes again. I glanced back at my phone, ignoring her, hoping she would open up when she wanted to.
I looked at her and how uneasy she was, so I stood up to get her some food.
Few minutes later, I got back but she wasn't in her bed. Where could she have gone to? Or could she be in the washroom? I gently placed the food on the table and sat down back on my chair.
She wasn't coming out and I became a bit worried that I had to walk closer to the washroom
"Hey! Are you in there?" I asked casually but no response. "Hey! Hey!" But no response. I gently opened the door and no one was in there. I rushed outside in search of the doctor.
I reached out to the doctor but he said he hasn't seen her anywhere around, we continued the search for her and heard screams coming from a far end, my heart skipped a bit in fear. I rushed there and saw her on a balcony. She was screaming her lungs out with tears rolling down her cheeks.
What the hell was she doing there? I became anxious. Her eyes were red and teary. Does she want to take her life?
"Ma'am it dangerous for you to be there!" The doctor said anxiously. I was really worried and couldn't wait any longer. I sped up with my wolf strength and grabbed her down from there. She was soaked in tears and her eyes seemed blurry. She kept crying, hitting me hard on my chest.
"Just let me go. I... I.. don't want to live anymore!" She yelled in tears. I felt a bit touched and hugged her tightly. She was truly in pain. She kept struggling to break free but at this point I couldn't let her go
I carried her back to the room and she cooled off, because she had lost much strength from all the screaming and crying. I gradually placed her on the bed before heading outside to speak to the doctor in private.
“Can she be discharged?" I asked.
"Yeah sure. But we need her family's signature." The doctor responded. I wondered if she had any. I mean she's been here for three days and no one came looking for her.
"Let's go complete the procedure then." I said and as we ventured, I stopped. "I need security here, she mustn't leave this room." The doctor nodded and whispered in a nurse's ear. She nodded and left, supposedly to get the security.
I returned to see her eyes shut, I believe she was sleeping. I quietly moved closer and sat on her bed, removing some strands of hair on her face, tucking it by the side to see a clearer view of her beauty. Who could have hurt her? I kept staring at her and she opened her eyes.
“What are you doing here?" She asked and I looked away.
“Umm.. you are awake." I said getting up. "You've been discharged. Do you have somewhere to go to?" She glared at me and shook her head. "How about I take you home. I still have some free rooms at home." She agreed which I didn't believe she would immediately.
We arrived at my home after we had left the hospital. I could tell she was awestruck by how big and beautiful it was. As she stared at every corner of the house, her mouth was wide open in shock and I smiled just looking at her facial expression. I asked our maids to help her as we walked in.
“Hello, darling!" A familiar voice called. I turned my gaze to the right and got shocked.
"Maria!" I said out loud in shock.
