Chapter 8
Roberto is a very handsome guy with a full, broad chest, and his beard style is well-carved and alluring. "You all can be seated," Mr. Ben said as they all sat down in anticipation of the next thing. "The essence of this meeting is to bring to your notice that my son is here..." pointing at Roberto, who was sitting to his right, "Roberto will be the one taking over the company from me. I brought him here so he can start getting used to things around here before I finally retire." Everyone looked at each other in amazement at how handsome Roberto, their would-be CEO, is.
"So, Roland!" Roland is the Managing Director of the company who has served Mr. Benson with all humility and loyalty. "I would love you to put him through everything he needs to know about the company. From today, I won’t be coming to work every day as usual, and I hope you all will work peacefully together for the betterment of the company. Am I understood?"
"Yes, Sir!" they all echoed in unison. Roberto was just quiet, observing the whole scenario and everyone. "Now, you all can return to your various duty posts." They all stood up, waiting for Mr. Benson to leave before they departed the conference room, leaving Roberto and Roland behind.
"Hey man, we could work together, right? You know, my dad already told me a lot about you, and I want to say thank you for having this company at heart." They shook hands.
"Yes sir, we could work together. As a matter of fact, I should be asking if we could work together because you can decide to sack me anytime as my new CEO, you know," Roland said as they both laughed.
"No, no, no! No one is sacking anyone here. You have been a dedicated worker, so why would I sack you? My dad commended you; so why would I do the exact opposite of what he expects me to do?" Roberto humbly stated. He's a humble fellow; one wouldn't know he's the son of a billionaire if they were not told. His humility and simplicity are out of the gauge.
"Alright man, we will talk better later on; I have some work to do right now," Roland said as they shook hands, hugged, and he left the room, leaving Roberto behind. They both talked like they had known each other for ages. Well, that's men for you.
"Huhh! Mehn!" Roberto exclaimed.
Two ladies were having a conversation: Maya and Angela, one of her colleagues. Angela is a man-type of lady; she likes handsome guys a lot and always blushes around them.
"Did you see that guy? He's such a handsome dude!" Angela blushed. "His beard, his broad chest I mean he's so cute." She said this because she already has a crush on him.
"I think you should spend this time thinking about your work and focusing on it rather than thinking about someone who doesn't know about your existence," Maya spoke very meanly without any shadow of a smile on her face and then continued with what she was doing.
"Why are you always mean when it comes to guys? Do you have any problem with that gender?" Angela questioned her.
"That's your business. I just gave some candid advice though." Maya is a no-nonsense lady who doesn't tolerate anything from anyone; she has this personality in common with Eliza. She would shun anyone that misbehaves around her and stay far away if they have questionable character. This was the major reason she's mean with Angela. Angela is always seen flocking around handsome men, and most times they end up using and dumping her. Maya keeps avoiding any form of conversation with her because she wouldn't have healthy conversations without talking about men.
A few minutes later, Maya's phone rang; it was Eliza calling.
"Hi Maya," Eliza said over the phone.
"Hello Eliza! How are you doing?" Maya asked. "Are you busy right now? I want to see you in my office."
"Actually, I'm not; I will be with you shortly," Maya replied and hurried up to go see her.
"Alrighty! I will be waiting," said Eliza as she ended the call.
A few minutes later, there was a knock on the door and Maya came in.
"Miss Workaholic! You finally decided to call; is everything okay?" she uttered jokingly.
Eliza gave a contagious smile. "Everything is fine; I'm just bored here and decided to call to know what's up with my friend."
"Are you done with your work for the day?" Maya asked in anticipation of hearing that there are still tasks to do.
"Not really. You know this is lunchtime; we could go out for lunch right?"
"Mmmmmh! I knew it. There would never be a time when the workaholic Eliza doesn't have work to do. Anyways, we could go out for lunch. But come to think of it, you're actually supposed to be the one managing this company," she said amusingly as they both laughed.
"You know you're such a clown! Now let's go get some lunch; it's LUNCH TIME!" They both left for lunch.
After lunch came a long and stressful day at work. Eliza was at the steering wheel while Maya sat in the car with her; she was going to drop Maya off at her place.
"Now I remember! How could I have forgotten? So tell me Eliza, why have you been so moody lately?" she queried inquisitively.
"Oh that! Don't worry; I'm fine now; just had a whole lot going on with me but I'm fine; I will be fine. Okay?" Eliza replied.
"Are you sure you're good now? You know you can talk to me about anything, right?" Maya conveyed pathetically.
"Yeah! I'm fine... Uuuh." There was silence in the car until they got to where Maya would alight from the car.
"It's alright; you can drop me here now." Eliza slowly stopped the car.
"Alright! We will see each other at work tomorrow; bye baby."
"Bye!" Maya said as she entered the house while Eliza zoomed off to her own house.
On her way home, she became uneasy not knowing what the problem was. For a while now, she has been consciously avoiding any form of conversation with Kael, the billionaire Alpha. She would come back from work and move straight to her room; from her room the next morning back to work. So for a while now, they both have not seen each other nor talked to each other. Nevertheless, they missed each other's company. She couldn't place her hand on anything she was feeling but she knew something was definitely wrong somewhere.
