I woke up the next day with an aching back. I stared at the ceiling and not moving afraid that I would worsen the stinging pain. I squeezed my eyes close trying to recall what happened. There was a big bad wolf and I fought with it. Argh! Glad, I'm still alive.
I opened my eyes when I heard the door opening showing Melissa with a worried look on her face.
"Hey..." She tried to smile at me for assurance and held my hand.
"I'm fine" That was the words came off my mouth, the same first words I says in front of everyone.
"I know" She softly squeezed my hand.
Her head nod down. I smiled before scanning the room. This ain't my room. The wall is completely dark and the windows are closed.
"Where am I?"
I looked at Melissa who is now wiping her tears off her eyes.
"You're in Jax's room"
She tried to sound normal but her sniffing and tears falling from her eyes was not enough to hide the sadness in her.
"Not bad" I joked but Melissa just stared at me.
"Can I barge in?"
Jax head popped in the door with a smile on his face. I waved my hand at him making sure I wouldn't move my back.
He waved back walking in and closed the door. "So, how are you feeling?" He asked putting both of his hands on his pocket. My eyes drawn into his scratches and cuts on his arms. I'd like to ask him if he's okay but I know he won't like it. Hail to his pride.
"Better"
I stared down at Melissa who is turning his face off Jax's direction, trying to hide her crying face. I chuckled when Jax rolled his eyes.
"Right. You're crying for Heather?" He sounded jealous.
Now it was my time to roll my eyes when Jax teased his mother.
"Seriously Jaxon? You're asking me that?! Heather was in danger because of you! She's like your little sister and you---"
"Mom, calm down"
Jax guide her mother up and hugged her.
I looked at them in Awe. Jax is a sweet child but a jerk sometimes. He wiggled his brows at me and I just laughed.
I could still hear Melissa murmuring something crying on Jax shoulder while her son being a good guy for a minute, nod his head like a real good one. I gave him the meanest look that I could master to stop him from his forced acts and do it in real.
He always laughed at his mother when she is crying thinking that it is stupid because she shouldn't cry after his father left them. Jax became the provider for the two of them, well now, that makes the three of us. He works in a law firm down town after being cut-off from the pack we were part before. He was a pack warrior at Trident's pack but when I was turn to Melissa's custody as my father's sister, my aunt, they decided to leave the pack. Well, we are not rogue because we had the consent from their Alpha. They knew that we needed a little space from people so we moved in a village of humans.
But it didn't turn out well. It was hard for us because we have to act like real humans and abide the rules posted inside the village. Jax can only do a little runs every month and shift on his wolf, the reason why I was so excited to see his wolf again.
Beside from me being different from others, the reason we moved here is because of Jax's job. He graduated in a law school and passed the board exam while I only finished my medical home schooling for only 5 years because my tutor died five years before I could have my title. I will graduate or not, there's still no chance for me to have my own job since I am not allowed to show up in front of people but Melissa insisted that it would be better if I could have a degree or something to learn after I told her that I want to be a doctor and help people. At first, I thought I was contagious that I am not allowed around people but when I started to feel my powers I began to understand things.
"I think we should eat"
"I can't move"
The two stared down at me with a confused look.
"Why?"
Jax asked.
"My back aches" He stared at me for seconds trying to figure out things on his mind.
"Oh right! I forgot the water" Jax immediately ran downstairs and got back with a bottle of water. I gave him a confused look.
"What's that for?"
"Uhh, you heal yourself with water right?" He said not sure of what he is doing.
"Yeah! But I need a stacked or water in a deep plate so I can just put my hand in it"
"Just use this" He insisted and walked towards the side of the bed.
"No! What do you want me to do with that? Pour it on my back?"
I disagreed annoyingly.
"Exactly"
I glared at him and extended my arm, opening my palm. Jax opened the bottle and pour a little amount of water on my hand. He sat on the floor and stared at my hand waiting for a magic to see.
I cleared my throat before focusing my eyes on the amount of water on my hand. It slowly moves and gently crawled its way on my arms. I closed my eyes shut and focused on the water travelling down my spine.
"I was already thinking if you were one of Poseidon's daughter" I heard Jax said. I smirked at the thought and opened my eyes when the water gave me a refreshing feeling from my back and disappeared in an evaporation process.
"Same here" I laughed and throw myself up in a sitting position. I stretched my arms and my legs. As soon as Jax's got off the floor, I hanged my legs from the bed and sit for a while.
"Does it still hurt?"
Melissa asked breaking her own silence.
"Nope. I think the bottled water helped" I looked at Jax and gave me a winning smile. "I'll just change my clothes"
"Okay. We'll wait for you downstairs"
Jax stepped closer and gave me a kiss on the forehead before leaving the room next to Melissa.
I heaved a sigh before walking into the closet. I face palmed myself when I saw the shirts in the closet. I forgot that this is not my room. I was deciding to leave the room when I saw a pile of comfy clothes. Jax. He surely chose good clothes and put it in the nightstand which I haven't noticed earlier.
I smiled grabbing the clothes and walked inside the bathroom.
RULES. Melissa set some rules.
Jax and I looked, our eyes talking at each other while Melissa is trying to spit a few important rules.
It seems like the two of us had the same mindset when we began to laugh.
"Nothing is funny"
We stopped and looked at Melissa who is now staring at us with lion's eye.
"Sorry"
I stared on the floor and tried to stop from laughing.
I could still here Jax chuckling over the table.
"It's just that...mom, we're not kids anymore. The rules are funny" Jax said honestly.
True.
We are not kids anymore to follow some baby rules.
"Enough with the 'we're not kids anymore'. Rules are rules"
"Wait, so I can't go out without your permission even I have to go to the firm?"
Melissa stopped and gave Jax a you're-not-even-listening look.
"I'm not yet done"
Jax mouthed an 'oh' and zippered his mouth with his fingers.
I wiggled my head side to side trying to stop myself from laughing.
"You are allowed to go out, if and only if it's important"
My mouth gaped open. What was that supposed to mean? I wanted to ask but I brushed the question off my mind and decided to listen.
"Jax, you can go out but you Heather..." Melissa transferred her gear and looked at me.
"Me?" I pointed myself.
"You need permission from me. I don't want something bad to happen again"
She said and I nod.
I understand. I smiled at the thought of it. Melissa is so caring and a mother to me. Her advices and rules for me are all life saving. Nothing she said put me in vain.
After the so called rules implementing conversations of ours, we started eating.
I walked to the other side of the bed and climbed. I folded my legs and faced my book in my hand. I rested my back on the headboard and focused on the words written on it but my mind flew out somewhere.
I dropped the book and stared at my hands. I was wondering what's with this hands.
I flicked my hands at the air and blue fires illuminate off my it. I sternly looked at the powerful notion coming out of my hand.
I carefully played with it for a while and testing it on every thing that I can reach.
This isn't bad, anyway.
