Beatrix'S POV
I went through the file the boss asked me to go through along with Freya. Now that I had done all I had to do, I was finally ready to let go of Kieran and focus on myself. He didn't ever deserve me I'm the first place anyway.
“The boss is very influential and he investing in this project through us will affect our careers and the company positively,” Freya explained to me as she went through the entirety of the content.
The name of the company sounded strange to me. It strangely made me remember Kieran and Abel. “You'll be Mrs Cain one day,” Kieran 's voice rang in my head. “And I'm sure you'll love it because I love it so much.”
“You zoned out again.” Freya let out a sigh which had a hint of frustration in it.
“I'm so sorry, I'm just curious who the boss is and how he actually will be. You know we need to know this about him before we'll be the one going over to his company for the proposal.” I pointed out to her gently and she looked at me for a few seconds before nodding gently.
“Yeah, that does make sense. I'm sure I can trust you with it right? I have to finish my tasks before we hand the report over to the boss. We'll most likely be going for the interview next week.” She said, pushing her chair backward to help her stand well. “Thank you, Isa.”
I nodded gently with a forced smile before going through the file for the last time to point out some things. I shook the feeling of similarities to Kieran and Abel off and just focused on work. I needed a lot of that focus right now.
As I looked down at the pages, the scenes of yesterday floated back to my head. I couldn't believe I was making all sorts of embarrassing sounds while Abel was doing his work.
A blush crept up my cheeks and I hurriedly buried my face in my palms to avoid being noticed by anyone. How would I explain blushing like a fool in between my work?
*****
The day to go over to The Cain Enterprise finally arrived and I sat in the reception of the large company with Freya seated next to me. I could feel she was nervous beside me and we started talking about some things to push away the tension till a young lady walked up to us.
“You must be Miss Beatrix, Miss Freya from S&G?” She asked and we both nodded gently. “Nice to have you here in Cain Enterprise, please follow me.” She said with a warm smile before leading us into the elevator.
I wondered why on earth we had to do the presentation to the CEO of The Cain Enterprise when our boss was there. Yes, we were the most trusted high-ranked employees but this was seriously nerve-racking.
“We have been expecting your arrival.” The lady continued as we walked down the corridor which was covered in expensive-looking red rugs which had beautiful golden designs. “Mr. Cain is yet to arrive for the meeting, so you will be waiting in the meeting room along with the rest of the members of the board who'll be assessing you along with Mr Cain.”
“Thank you very much.” I thanked her and she smiled gently before leading us into the conference room. There was an expensive-looking glass conference table with top-notch materials on it. From the look of things, the company was a very rich one to have such exquisite designs.
“And I thought S&G was very large and wasted money on interior designs,” Freya whispered to me as we sat with the men who greeted us warmly.
“Tell me about it,” I whispered back to her as I continued to assess the beautiful room, as we waited for Mr Cain to arrive like the lady had said.
After sitting for almost fifteen minutes, the lady hurriedly announced to us that Mr Cain was on the floor already. “Finally, I thought I might faint from impatience.” Freya groaned as she pulled open her file which she was to present from.
My stomach churned with anxiety and everything around me seemed to go in a slow motion as I tried gathering myself together so I wouldn't do anything wrong in this presentation. It was a very important one and I do not want to mess anything up.
“You can do this, Isabella.” I hyped myself in my head before finally looking up to welcome the Mr Cain.
A very familiar scent of cologne hit me as I heard the door push open. I took my time before looking towards the door to see Mr Cain who stepped into the room.
My eyebrows raised in shock as my eyes met with Abel's. The look on his face showed he was equally surprised but made it look professional as he walked over to his seat.
I gulped hard as I watched him settle down. Why on earth was my ex-boyfriend's dad and my fling the CEO of the company I was trying to get a project with?
The realization then dawned on me. Carmela was right when she said I was a love-sick puppy always wrapping myself around Kieran for his love. I never thought for once that he never told me anything deeply about his family or his background for the three years we were together.
I felt like a complete fool just realizing this. Maybe I was the problem and Kieran just made it clear to me my getting together with my best friend behind my back.
I blinked back tears as I slowly started to drift away but I gathered myself together. I needed to bury them in my past and get this contract for my future. They were all in my past now anyway, including Abel who was surprisingly sitting in front of me to grant my company a contract.
“It's nice to have you from S&G here.” His voice was chilly and it did a lot of unholy things to me. Get yourself together, girl. “Can I see the proposed project?”
I nodded gently before gathering my file and standing up to get it to him. The lady who showed us in was about to come get it but he waved her off. “Let her bring it, Cece. I want her to show things to me.” He said, his gaze not leaving me.
What exactly was he trying to do now?
I walked over to him, showing him every necessary detail for the project. “This is the budget drafted for the plan. As you requested, it's only the payment for the first stage.” I explained to him as my hands ran through the pages.
I noticed his gaze on my fingers with a look of intensity instead of the things I was showing him on the pages. I wanted to pull my hand away and at the same time, something inside me wanted to tease him more.
I didn't know when I started doing so. I still kept my talk but my fingers were busy drawing patterns on the paper and he seemed to understand what I was trying to do. “I'll sign the contract. I'll deposit all the payment needed for the first two stages.” He abruptly said and everyone in the room looked stunned at his sudden agreement.
Everyone knew him to be a man who was never easy to negotiate with and I was able to make him sign the contract with just two minutes of explanation.
“But sir…”
“Do you have a new job opportunity?” He glared at the man who was about to protest threateningly.
“N-no, sir.”
As he was about to sign the paperwork, he glanced up at me and our eyes locked for a few minutes. “But I have a condition.”
