THIRTY THREE *EDDY'S MISERY*

Brenda’s POV

I was lying down with my head placed on Consty’s laps on a Couch inside the sitting room. We were discussing about so many things, among which are Andrea’s flowers and about how my day at the pack house with Andrea went.

“Knock, knock”. We heard a sound at the door.

“Someone is at the door, let me go and get it” Consty said.

I sat up and he stood up and went for the door.

“Hey Serene, it’s been a while. You can come in.” Consty said to the person at the door.

“Hi Consty”

She responded and walked into the house. Consty closed the door behind her.

“How are you doing Serene, it’s been a while since I last saw you dear”. I greeted her.

She looked really skinny and dried up compared to how she looked at my wedding that I wondered if she is sick.

“Hello Brenda, I am fine. And I can see you are doing great”. She replied.

Serene is one of the girl friends of Eddy, in fact she can be described as Eddy’s most serious girlfriend. We all hope that they both become mates.

Serene would be eighteen soon and hopefully by that time, Eddy would discover her as his mate.

“Yeah, considering the fact that you decided to abandon us all this while”. I asked.

“Not that dear. The thing is, I have this feeling that Eddy has been avoiding me for sometime now”. She said.

“Why would you think that way Serene” I asked

Actually, I was trying to act surprised because her complaint didn’t come as a surprise to me you know, Eddy has even been avoiding himself too.

“He hasn’t answered or returned my calls since after the full moon ceremony. He hasn’t even acknowledged any of my numerous text messages. I know he is home now, that is why I came to find out what the problem was” she answered.

Sincerely, I felt for her. She must be going through a whole lot considering how much she is into Eddy. She had turned blinded eyes to his numerous dates just so as to preserve and sustain their love. It’s obvious that Eddy’s neglect towards her is what was affecting her.

“Eddy is home at the moment Serene, but I think he has been going through a lot, even though he has refused to say anything about it. You can go to his room” Consty said.

“I don’t think that is a very good idea. If he doesn’t want to speak with me, I doubt if he would appreciate my barging into his room without prior notice” she said.

“Okay, maybe I should get him myself.” I volunteered.

“Thanks Brenda, you are such a darling”. She said smiling for the first time since she arrived.

I smiled back at her and motioned on her to have a seat before climbing up the staircase to go get Eddy.

“Hey Eddy, are you in, open up”.

I called out aloud after knocking for about a minute without getting any response.

The door slightly opened and Eddy peeped from inside to ascertain if I was really the one knocking.

“My Brenda, you can come in” he said.

Eddy started referring to me as ‘my Brenda the moment he realized that I was going to be his sister in-law.

I looked at Eddy, he wasn’t looking good himself. He was only on boxers, and it appeared as though all of his masculinity have left him.

I wished I could penetrate inside of him to know exactly what has been eating him up and also proffer a solution to him.

He rarely join us at the dining, all his liveliness had left him. Whatever it is that is doing this to him must be something really great, greater than everyone of us.

I stood looking at him, lost in thought and not hearing anything he said. I resolved within me to grab this opportunity and talk to him. About Serene, work, family, there is just so much to talk about.

I watched as he left and went back inside to lie on his bed.

Eddy’s POV

I have been hearing the knock on my door but was too weak to get up from my bed and put on something before going to open the door. At first, I had hoped that whosoever it was that was knocking would soon get tired and leave, until I heard my Brenda’s voice.

“Hey Eddy, are you in, open up” she said.

I resolved a long time ago to add ‘my’ to the name of any lady that would be Consty’s mate, to show my love and gratitude to Consty for been the best big brother anyone could wish for.

Although I have always believed that it was going to be Andrea, but Brenda is still as good as Andrea and we love her and wouldn’t have asked for a better lady to be part of our humble family.

I knew I couldn’t keep my Brenda waiting for long,so I quickly got up and went for the door.

“My Brenda, you can come in” I said after I opened the door.

She didn’t reply to me, she seems lost upon seeing me. I know exactly what she has in mind, and I so much wish I could open up to her.

I know I am causing her pains, I know I am causing pains to my family, I know I have neglected all my friends. But for what I long for, I am willing to sacrifice even more.

“So sorry I took long to open, sincerely, I never knew it was you” I said trying to force some smiles.

“I hope I am forgiven my Brenda?” I asked taking a slight bow to show my repentance.

But Brenda didn’t reply, it was as if she wasn’t even hearing me.

“My Brenda, are you okay?” I asked her but received no response.

“The door is wide open for you my dear” I said and went back to lie on my bed. I believe she would find her way inside whenever she gets done with her thoughts.

“O so sorry for that Eddy”

She suddenly said and walked in closing the door behind her.

“I guess I was lost in my thoughts” she added.

“That’s not a problem my Brenda, I noticed too” I said.

I was trying really hard to put up a smile.

“Actually, I came to inform you that Serene is here” she said.

Realizing that I wasn’t ready to say anything, she continued.

“She actually complained that you have been avoiding her Eddy, can you tell me why that is?” she asked.

In the real sense of the word, her question sounded more of a command coming from her to me.

I knew that the silent scenario wasn’t going to work right now, especially not with my Brenda. I decided it’s time to open up to her, at least she is one person that understands me even when I am yet to explain myself to others.
