Elena’s POV My heart jumped in my chest as the ground beneath my feet trembled. Another explosion. I swallowed a sob as I dragged myself through the underground tunnel, occasionally looking back at the trail that led to home. But unfortunately, I could never dream of returning, because the place that once held laughter and memories now lay in ashes. Smoke clouded my vision, but that wasn’t the reason my eyes stung with tears. It was the last words of my parents echoing in my mind. “Run Elena. Do everything you need to do to survive! The pack’s future is on your shoulders now!” Before tragedy struck, I had been in my room, watching the sun set like I always do. I would also look down at the wolves who trained in the field and wish I were as strong as they were. As the only daughter of the Silver Moon Pack, I was born into privilege, wealth, status, and power, but I lacked the one thing that was meant to cement it all. And that was a wolf. While my family bloodline was best known for producing the most impressive wolves in the kingdom—the very reason why we were favored by the royal family—I wasn’t so lucky to share this fate. In simple terms. I was a weak omega. More or less like a stain on the pack name, unable to even leave her room without supervision. But despite that, I loved my family, and I always hoped for a time when I wouldn’t be a burden. But when the first explosion hit, I expected to be the first one they abandoned, since I had no strength to fight. I didn’t have enough time to process what was happening, all I saw was fire and blood. My parents rushed into my room then, pushing the keys to the underground passage to my chest. It all happened so fast and I lost sight of them on the screen of smoke and chaos. I couldn’t help but wonder who could have broken through our defenses. Rouges? A new rebellion group? Our rivals? A million and one questions roamed my mind, but one thing was sure. I had to run. Even if I didn’t know where I was running to. Even when the light at the end of the tunnel seemed far from my reach. I had to run. I had no other choice but to run. But then— A hand shot out from the shadows and clamped around my wrist. I gasped, my face paling as I stumbled back, but another figure came up behind me, a viscous grin filtering through the darkness. There were two soldiers, and I instantly recognized the seal on their uniforms. It was the royal seal. The cruel realization dawned on me, striking like a sharp bolt of lightning. Our attackers weren’t rogues, neither were they rivals. They were members of the royal forces—warriors of the kingdom my pack and family fought hard to protect. It didn’t make any sense. But I was cornered, and their eyes flashed with the kind of hunger that had nothing to do with food. “No…” I breathed, but the word barely slipped out before the first soldier grabbed my arm and yanked me forward. “Looks like we found a prize…” he sneered, his blood-stained claws grazing my cheeks. “A little runaway pup.” I swallowed hard as the one behind me took a strand of my hair, his lips ghosting over my ear. “She’s a pretty one at that.” He snickered. “Alpha’s brat, maybe. Would explain why she’s alone down here, but I didn’t know the Silver Moon pack had a daughter.” The first one sucked his teeth, his gaze lowering to my cleavage. It lingered there, and I trembled as a sinister smirk pulled at the corners of his lips. “Who cares, she smells like an omega. Let’s have some fun before we kill her then.” My pulse hammered as his cold fingers tugged at the neckline of my dress, tearing away the fabric. “No…please….” I begged, trying to jerk out of their grip, but they only laughed at my efforts. “You’re only making me hornier darling, I love to see them’ sob when I fuck.” “Stop!” I raised my voice, but they pinned me to the wall, and I couldn’t do anything against their strength. “You’re not going to get away with this!” “Yeah? And who’s going to stop us?” A low growl answered him. Not from me. Not from them. From deeper in the tunnel. It was slow and deliberate, sending chills down my spine. And it seemed I wasn’t the only one affected. The soldiers froze. Heavy footsteps echoed through the space around us, a presence so powerful it felt suffocating. And then he appeared. A man dressed in the same uniform, but his was flanked with honorary badges, shoulder boards, and medals pinned to his chest. It didn’t take much for me to realize that this man was not a force to be reckoned with. “General.” The men straightened up and stood at attention, releasing me so abruptly I nearly fell. They shared a wary glance, their voices breaking as they stuttered out an excuse. “We—we found her wandering. She must be a Silver Moon survivor.” “She..she’s just an omega, and she resisted when we captured her,” the other added quickly, like it justified everything. The general tilted his head, gaze shifting from their shaking forms to me. My breath caught in my throat. His eyes were amber, glowing faintly like a full flame. I couldn’t help but look away, gathering what was left of my dress to hide my exposed body. Then I heard him speak. “Didn’t I give orders to report back to me when you find a survivor?” His tone was firm, weighted with authority. The first soldier opened his mouth. “We were only—” Blood splattered on the floor. My knees buckled, and I slowly raised my gaze, my pupils dilating as I saw the general’s claws shoot out of the soldier’s back. He was so fast. So fast that I couldn’t catch his movements with my bare eyes. The second only staggered back, but before he could shift, the general’s hand closed around his throat, stopping him mid transition. His neck snapped with a sickening crack. The silence that followed swallowed me whole, and I almost didn’t hear the sound of their bodies falling limb against the ground. I stared. Unable to breathe, unable to blink. The general glanced at me, his amber eyes mirroring a reflection of my fate. Death. He killed his men like they were nothing. Now I was next. I opened my mouth. To beg. To scream. Yet no sound escaped my lips. The world spun, and my vision blurred at the edges. He took one step toward me. That was the last thing I saw before everything went black.
