RUNAWAY GIRL

CHAPTER 1

MELLISSA POV

Today I am officially starting high school as the new girl Mellissa Scott with normal dark brown hair and dull black eyes instead of my red fiery bouncy curly hair and strikingly green glassy eyes with I inherited from my mom as it ran in her family. Adrian inherited his features completely from dad’s side of light brown almost brown eyes and honey colored eyes with a towering height of 6 feet 2 inches.

“Come on Mel. Get up and get ready for school.” Lucas(Adrian) says.

We have this thing of calling each other by our fake identities so that we don’t slip our real names out to everyone.

“Ok, Luke. Be down in 20.” I say and quickly take a shower brush my teeth wear clothes that a normal school girl would wear, nothing too showy or screaming ‘notice me because I’m weirdly dressed.’

We were given a house in a 10 minute radius of the high school, the police station and hospital. It is a two storey house, 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, an attic and a two car garage. Mom, Melanie Scott and Dad, Liam Scott ( Agents McKarthy and Booth) were given one car while one was given to Lucas.

“Come on. I do not want to be late on my first day of being a teacher, Mel. Hurry up.” Lucas says with his now blonde hair and brown eyes which he has inherited from our mom Melanie, while I have features inherited from our dad’s side that is Liam.

After a 10 minute drive, Luke parks the car in the parking at leaves after kissing my forehead towards the teacher’s quarters. I start walking towards the main door with my head lowered. I entered the hallway and went to the reception area to get my schedule of the semester. She was a polite lady, Ms. Dale, the receptionist and gave me the directions to the homeroom period class as if I already didn’t know the school like the back of the hand.

I reached the class and saw that the interiors of this place hadn’t changed a bit. As I entered the classroom and sat down in the middle row quietly. Thankfully till now I hadn’t seen any of my old friends otherwise I would have done something stupid in front of them and definitely got noticed.

“Hello. Excuse me. New girl? Is she deaf.” I heard someone saying. I look up and see the teacher looking at me and me being the stupid ole self that I am pointed with my index finger to myself. I heard chuckling and giggling all around and I had officially got everyone’s attention due to my stupidness.

“Yes, of course you. You’re the new girl we were informed about right? I am Mr. Brown your History teacher. Stand up, introduce yourself then sit down so I can continue the lecture.” The teacher, Mr. Brown says.

I stand up and say, “ My name is Mellissa Scott,” and then quickly sit down.

“What, nothing else to say new girl. We want to know more about you.” Jason Wilber says. He always was a fuckboy material.

“Mr Wilbur, I would really like you to keep your mouth shut. Ms. Scott, it is alright for you to not share stuff with the class so do not fall prey to the peer pressure here.” Mr. Brown says.

I just nod and the class continues. I look around to see many familiar faces sitting around me. There was Kenneddy, a girl who was with me in elementary chemistry, then Sam, a guy who was with me in Mathematics. Mr Brown seems like a new teacher.

The class was rather boring and I could not wait for it to get over. After the bell rang signaling that the class is over, I quickly packed my bag and went out of the class to my locker to see what lesson I had now.

Hr 1- History (Room 206)

Hr 2- Chemistry (Room 102)

Hr 3- English (Room102)

Hr 4- Lunch

Hr 5- Free

Hr 6- PE (Gymnasium)

I kept my history books and headed for chemistry in Room 102. As I entered the class I spotted Riley, my old best friend Jack, Arya and some new yet a familiar faced guy sitting at the back of the class. I have not seen Peggy and Nathan till now. At that moment I just wanted to run to them and tell them it’s me Astrid but I cannot do that and put their lives in danger.

I quietly sat in the middle row next to a girl who was busy using her phone.

“Um…excuse me. Could you like not sit here. I have reserved this seat for someone not looking as hideous you. So kindly get off.” She says.

Ah! Should have recognized this b***h before. Bethany f*****g Anderson. High class b***h of the school- no the town.

“Bethany stop it. Just because she is not as fake as you that doesn’t mean you’ll go full swing in degrading people. It’s okay. Come and sit with us.” I here a voice say.

I turn around and see Riley and group standing there. I am so thankful for her being a loud mouthed girl sometimes. I just simply nod, get up and sit with them.

It wont harm to sit with them for an hour.

“My names Riley. This is Jack, Moses and Arya. What is your name?” Riley says.

“Yeah A pretty girl like you should have a pretty name.” Jack says. Woah! When did Jack freaking Lodge say that. A guy who never talked to girls said that/ Looking at him he did change , body and appearance wise. Gone is the short lanky guy with braces and acne. Now he is tall crossing 6 ft and has an amazing body with no braces or acne on his face.

“Hello. Hello. I mean I know I am pretty but you can stop gawking at me.” Jack says again.

“Ss..sorry. My name is Mellissa Scott.” I say softly.

“It’s okay don’t be shy. We are nothing like that b***h over there.” Arya says. I love this Korean cutie.

I just offer her a smile and look down. Moses is new to the group I see.

We chat for five minutes and then the teacher shows up. It’s Mrs. Panabaker. She always was a sweetheart to Adrian as well as me. When the incident happened she was there as a shoulder to cry on.

“So class we are going to start with our every Thursday pop quiz.” She says as she enters the class without noticing me as the new student. Well that works.

She asked some questions and then she pointed at me to answer one.

“Are you a new student. I have never seen you here, child.” I say.

I stand up and say, “ Yes, ma’am.I just joined today.” I always new she like it when students stand answer when the teacher is talking to them.

“Okay. Introduce yourself.” She says.

“My name is Mellissa Scott.” I say and wait for her to let me sit.

“Very well Mellissa. You can take some notes form Jermaih here for the classes you missed. Take a seat.” She says and continuous.

“So today we will be studying Haloalkenes….” I completely zoned her out but one name caught my attention suddenly.

“Is Nate coming to school today? He better come because I really don’t want mom, moming him around.” Moses says.

Nate. Nathaniel Johnson but my Nathan. Oh happy days! Wait. Why is Moses’s mom taking care of Nathan. s**t I remember now! Moses is Nathan’s mom’s sister’s son. We met a few times when we were younger. But that does not stop the question form popping up in my mind that why is Nathan’s aunt taking care of him. Where are his parents?

“I don’t know when he is planning to come to class because I saw his car parked in the parking.” Jack says.

“He’s really messed up, you know after Astrid then his mom. A guy our age can only go through some s**t at the moment.” Arya says.

I tense hearing my name.  Astrid. I left them. What about his mom? Lucinda was an amazing mom from the time I had known her.

“But that does not give him the right to behave the way he behaves with everyone, with us and especially with his dad.” Riley says.

What happened that Nathan got so f****d up.

“That is true. He is turning 18 soon and he needs to be a bit responsible-“ Moses is cut off by Mrs Panabaker.

“The four of you at the back. Please feel free to discuss what matters of international importance are you talking about. I would really like to know and pass some to my husband. Maybe he could present them.” She says sassily. Her husband is one of the many political leaders of the town.

“Global Warming.” Jack answers without thinking anything.

“Thought so. Pay attention here or I can set up your appointment with the principle.” She says and continues teaching.

After another 40 minutes the lesson got over and since the next lesson is in this room itself so I don’t move from the seat.

Suddenly, Peggy comes running into the classroom towards us and says, “ So I heard the English teacher is real hot and young I must say.” Typical Peggy.

“Who are you?” She tilts her head and asks me.

“Peggy, this is Mellissa. Be nice.” Riley says.

“I know how to behave myself, ‘Kay. I’m not your cousin over there.” She says pointing at Bethany.

Yes! Bethany and Riley are cousins. They share the same grandfather, i.e. their father’s are real brothers. How ironic right. One is a b***h and the other is an amazing angel.

“Shut up and start spilling about this teacher you’re talking about.” Riley says and the group snickers.

“So. Sophie told me, BTW Sophie is my sister, younger to me by a year, that his name is Lucas Scott. He has blonde hair and very pretty brown eyes. Sophie also said his voice is real husky. I calling dibs on him.” Peggy says.

These guys are talking about Adrian. I laugh quietly to myself.

“Why are laughing by yourself Ms. Scott?” Arya asks.

“Its nothing. Lucas, our English teacher is my brother.” I say.

“f**k yeah. You’re also a Scott.” Jack says.

“Damn mama, your bro be fiiiiine.” Peggy says and we just laugh.

Just then Luke enters the class and stands in front of the teacher’s table. I can see the girls swooning and the guys giving hard look at to my brother. Well my brother is one handsome hunk but I’m never going to admit it.

“My name is Lucas Scott and I’m going to be teaching you English this semester. I’m just going to skip the introduction of you all because I know I wont be remembering any of those names. So I will get to know you eventually. Open your novels to the first chapter and start reading, it should be completed in the next 20 minutes. Then you have a quiz for the next 10 minutes. Come on. Start.” He says.

“You know I take my words back. You brother maybe hot but he gives a s**t load of work.” Peggy says and starts reading.

Lucas starts taking rounds of the room and when he passes me his smiles and walks again to the front of the room.

“Okay class times up. Close your books. The sheets are being passed to you. Do not cheat, if you do not know the answer to a question just simply leave it blank. I need to see the speed of this class so I can make my own speed with you. Once you have completed the paper, you can submit it on the desk and leave the room. You will be excused for the rest of the lesson.” He says.

“I take my words back again. He’s not that bad.” Peggy says again and all of us chuckle at her.

The book we are studying is Scarlet Heart by Tong Hua. I quickly completed the quiz and went to submit it.

“What do you have next?” Lucas asks me.

“Lunch. You?”

“Same. I made a few colleague friends. What about you?” He asks.

“Yeah. I made too. The group back there.” I say.

“Yep, can see. You met Riley and all.” He says and I nod and go out of the class.

By the time I reach the lunch room form my locker Riley, Arya, Peggy, Jack and Moses are sitting at the table.

“Oii. Mellissa get your lunch and sit with us.” Jack screams from the other side of the cafeteria.

Great! Just great, now everyone is looking at me. So much for not getting noticed.

I nod, get my lunch which consists of a pizza slice and some pasta and move towards their table. I sit in between Riley and Peggy. I see there is still one seat empty in front of me. These people were talking about something when Moses spoke.

“Finally. Mr Johnson graces us with his presence. Your honor would you like some lunch.” Moses speaks, his words dripping with sarcasm.

“Shut up Thompson.” He blurts and sits down on the chair in front of me and looks at me.

“Who’s this?” He says.

“This is Mellissa. Mellissa this jerk is Nathaniel. She is going to be friends with us so suck it up.” Riley says.

“Whatever.” He says.

He looks so handsome. Oh my god! These four years have done him good. His ever so brown chestnut colored hair is tossed behind to give him a rugged messy look but at the same time look so soft that I just want run my hands through it and feel the softness. His eyes. Oh his eyes those warm pools of greenish blue color are so alluring and captivating. His lips look so soft, so kissable.

I was peering at him from under my lashes when Peggy calls me.

“Mellissa. Mellissa is too long. I’m calling you Mel. So you in?” She says.

“I’m sorry what?” I say.

“Peggs she wasn’t listening to anyone of you because she was busy taking my godly features in. Am I right Melly?” Nathan say smirking wildly.

“Please. It’s not like I haven’t seen better. I must say you’re rather average looking, Nathan.” I say as these words just blurt out of my mouth. No. I wasn’t supposed to react like this. Only Astrid talked to him like this.

“Don’t call me that!” He says as the smirk on his face falls and his smirky expression falls and is replaced with anger. f**k I called him Nathan. Only his mom and I called him that.

“What! What did I call you?” I ask.

“Don’t call me Nathan-“ He says when Arya interrupts him.

“Nate, stop it. She doesn’t know anything. It’s not her fault.”

“I know she doesn’t know s**t but listen to me carefully, I HATE THAT NAME, so never call me that.” He says and storms out of the cafeteria.

“I’ll go check on him.” Moses says and runs behind him.

“yeah. Sorry Mel. You had to say that but never call him that.” Jack says.

“But what’s wrong? It’s just his name.” I say.

“It’s just that he has bad memories with the people who called him that. So just please refrain from calling him that.” Riley says.

“But what happened exactly?” I ask.

“It’s not our place to tell you about it, Mel. It’s best to leave it be.” Peggy says.

“Alright. I hope he is okay though.” I say.

“Don’t worry Moses will take care of him.” Arya says.

“Yeah. Like he takes care of you?” Jack says nudging Arya

“Shut up.” She says blushing.

“You and Moses are an item?” I ask.

“Nope. That boy is blind. My friend here is a case of unrequited love.” Peggy says and all of us laugh. The bell rings signalling that lunch is over.

“What lesson do you guys have. I have Mathematics.” Riley says.

“I have Physics with Moses.” Arya says.

“Nope. You guys have chemistry.” Jack says and laughs but sees our serious expressions so he straightens up and says, “I have Geography.”

“I have Geography too. I have it with Ms. Simmons.” Peggy says.

“Me too. Let’s get going.” He says.

“I have a free period. I’ll just go to the library and catch up with the left over work.” I say and head towards the library.

“You know the way to the library? I can leave you till there if you want.” Riley asks.

“It’s okay. The secretary gave me a map. I’ll figure it out.” I lie knowing my exact way to the library.

We all part our ways and I go towards the library with Nathan’s thought on my mind. What has gone so down that he hates this name. I know I left but what happened to his mom. Why is Moses’s mom taking care of him? Where is Marcus, his dad? I really want to know know.
