" WHAT? ! " Was all I heard him say.
I really don't know what I was expecting, but I still couldn't look him in the eye. How can I look into the eyes of an emotionless billionaire only to be rejected in my face?
“Answer me Mira”, he urged, snapping me back to reality. That was the first time I heard him call my name. Weird how it somehow calmed my thoughts.
“ Mira, how far are you gone ? " His strong scent wafted through my nose, alerting me of his movements.
“ Damn Mira, speak to me! " I flinched, unable to speak. I tried to but nothing came out.
“ Doesn't matter. I'm getting rid of it anyway. " I croaked out, walking towards the door because I couldn't contain those tears.
I felt a strong hand pull my arm and my body flushed with his. The impact was rough yet gentle. He held a strong grip on my waist
“ Don't cry. " Anthony wiped away tears. I didn't know. They fell out of my eyes. I still couldn't look at his alluring gray orbs.
His voice was as soft as a feather, a touch as gentle as the wind. His words soothed my pain.
“ Marry me ”. My eyes snapped at his.
“ Marry me and let's raise the child together. " He continued, softly stroking my cheeks. I felt like melting
“ You want to marry someone like me? ” Suddenly it felt like a switch went off, and he quickly pulled away, walking back to the window that reflected all of Los Angeles' beauty.
“ No. But we have no option. We’ll get married for a year only. This would kill two birds. "
He reasoned.
“ I wouldn't get married to that gold digger, Sharon, and I would have an heir. " His words only shocked me more.
This man always confuses me. One moment, he's acting all sweet to me and the other, he puts me down and hurts me.
“ I'm not letting you use my child for your selfish desire! ”
“ I'm the father too, you know, and besides, your mum needs the best medication. Coronary artery disease isn't a minor sickness. " I chuckled in disbelief.
“ It's just a year, Mira, and after that, you're free to go, but then, we’ll have joint custody of our child. "
Both hands in his pocket, he walked back to me like a predator, lifting his brow up.
“ Fine. Just for a year. ” I agreed, defeated. I agreed because my mother and my sister deserve better.
“ But no love. No attachment. Just a child together. " He said, taking a strand of my hair away from my eyes.
I wasn't comfortable with the last condition and I couldn't state why.
“The wedding planners will contact you soon” and with that I left his office crying more than before.
…..
Walking down to bake n ' bite, I sighed, humming my favorite rhythm. It had been so long since I last visited Mrs Peters, since I left.
I could see she wasn't happy with my absence, but she denied it. I really missed that place.
The screeching sound of a black car caught my attention. Immediately, two hefty bodyguards surrounded me and I panicked.
“ Please don't kill me, I'm just craving cheesecake. " My hands blocked my view in fear.
“ So you are the poor so-called interior designer. "
Looking up, I was met by Mrs Georgia Reynolds, Anthony's mother, clothed in all black and a pretty slim blonde who had a lot of makeup on her.
" I know girls like you, you want money! So you decide to tie my son down with a fake pregnancy. "
“ No i- "
" Call off this meaningless wedding. This is Anthony's supposed wife, classy, successful, wealthy and influential. Nothing like you. "
Finally realizing the blonde was ‘Sharon’, I scanned her, seeing the things Mrs Reynolds mentioned.
My life was once like this. I sighed at the thought.
“ I came to find you because my son has refused to listen to anyone, not even his best friend Damien, even after threatening to take his inheritance. Cut this drama young lady. " She pointed at me, walking into the car with her bodyguards
“ I wonder what he sees in you. " Sharon spoke, throwing disgusted looks at my side. Adjusting her shades, she followed Mrs Reynolds into the car and it sped off.
Anthony's voice from the other side granted me permission as I entered his office. He was sitting on the new couch flipping through documents as always.
I had managed to change the interior of his office a little, as well as the reception and other offices. Anytime I walked into the building, I was always impressed with myself.
My painting hung on almost every wall of the office, giving me the satisfaction of my hard work. I was finally getting the value for my skills.
“ Everyone is against our marriage. Why? ” Anthony asked, feeling my presence
“ Maybe because I'm not in your status. " I sat opposite him on the couch.
He glanced at me before shifting his concentration back.
" But you're carrying my child. ”
“ Your mother thinks otherwise. " I stood up and walked to the table.
" What do you mean? " His curiosity was so obvious.
“ Your mother and Sharon stopped me on my way to work today and asked me to call off the wedding. I just wanted to get a cheesecake. " I sighed, taking a cup of water.
“ Damien also left here a few minutes ago asking me to call off the wedding for funny reasons. ”
I hummed, dropping the glass cup on the table. His arms crossed mine, filling the cup with water and drinking it, while I stood there frozen. He definitely has an effect on me and he knows
“ Nevertheless, we are getting married tomorrow. ”
“ Tomorrow? “ I questioned, dragging my eyes from his rosy wet lips to focus on his eyes, but the water he drank didn't help either.
Subconsciously, I wet mine, watching him glance at my lips and wiping water from the corner of my mouth.
“ Yes. It would be on the outskirts of town. We have to act fast before my mother brings up a plan. " He broke the contact, his tone blank.
Nodding my head, I left his office and got to work.
……
Tears slipped down my eyes as I scribbled down my signature on the wedding contract. Never in my life had I ever imagined getting married like this without my loved ones.
Most especially to a man like Anthony who can never be in love nor does he want to be loved. I watched him scan through the document before signing it. It was official.
I couldn't help but ask and wonder why he was so cold and shut everyone off.
His huge hand wrapped around my small one as he gently kissed it and led me out of the office. If I hadn't known him I would have sworn he treated me like an egg. But somehow I felt safe in his hands.
I watched the sun go down at dusk the whole ride back home. The silence was deafening. I could regularly see this jaw clench and un-clench for unknown reasons.
I just wanted to go home and cry.
As soon as we got home, Anthony exited the car and took long strides into the house, leaving me confused, walking behind him. Turning on my phone, it pinged with missed calls and messages, but my attention caught Marisa and Lily's message.
Marisa
I guess it's official now. Congratulations sissy
Lily
Now you're married, who am I going to rant to? Marisa is boring
A low chuckle left my lips. I miss them.
Going into the house, I heard shouts.
“ You bloody got married to her, Anthony! "
“ You knew I liked her! ” Damien pointed his finger to Anthony.
“ No, you only wanted to get in her pants! "
" And you don't? " Damien chuckled sarcastically.
“ Just because you found out she's pregnant, and you’ve had s*x with her before doesn't mean it's your man! "
he continued.
" She's the only woman I spent a night with and was never able to clear the memory. You know I searched for her! You bloody know! " Anthony burst out, fuming.
“ I shouldn't have drugged you that night! " Damien shouted and shattered the flower vase by his side.
" What?! "
" You are not the father of the child Anthony, I AM! " Damien revealed, and everywhere went dead silent.
