CHAPTER TWO
The following morning, it was still dark outside when I sneaked out of the house. My brother, Tyrone, had already traveled out to another country a few minutes ago because we had obviously dropped him off at the airport. He wanted to become a famous musician and he was going to make that happen.
Mathew and I were on our way to Minnesota academy because he also was joining the academy with Tyrone before the plan we struck out yesterday came into place.
I was really surprised at how easy it was for me to leave the pack. Usually, my father or the guards would have noticed me sneaking out. But my mother helped us a lot. She made sure no one saw me leave.
Before Tyrone left the country, he gave me some of his things. We hugged for a long time because we wouldn't see each other for a while. "Promise you'll write to me?" I asked him, my voice a little shaky.
Tyrone squeezed my hand. "Of course, I will! And you be brave at that academy, okay? Don't let anyone push you around.”
"I won't," I said, trying to sound tougher than I felt even if I was a little scared about what disguising as Tyrone would be like.
As Mathew and I walked, he looked at me with a serious face. "You need to try and not talk the way you usually do," he said. "It sounds too girly. The others at the academy might think something is strange about you."
"What do you mean?" I asked, feeling a little confused. "Is my voice really that different?"
Mathew sighed. "Just... try to make it a little deeper, you know? And maybe don't use so many... fancy words that would make them think you’re a girl ." He looked a bit awkward as he said it.
“But I’m a girl,” I said,
"I know that Tyana but right now you are a boy in Minnesota academy. We need them to think you are just like any other boy wolves out there.” He pointed out.
Pretending to be my brother Tyrone? Honestly, it wasn't going to be super difficult for me. I mean, think about it, he was my twin and I knew him like the back of my fingers, plus– I'd been around Tyrone and Mathew since I was tiny. We did everything together. We'd kick a football around until we were sweaty and tired. We even went riding horses, galloping through the fields like the wind. They never treated me like I was just a girl, not until my dad started making a big deal out of it when I turned twelve.
That's when things changed. Suddenly, Tyrone was going off to 'Warrior training' with all the other boy kids, and I wasn't allowed. It felt like a punch to the gut. Finding out that being a girl meant I couldn't do certain cool things? It was awful.
My father, being the Alpha and all, had this old-fashioned idea about what his daughter should be doing. You know, playing with dolls, acting all delicate and 'lady-like.' And the worst part? The big plan was for me to just get married off to some Alpha when the time came. Ugh! Just the thought of marrying Alpha Theron made me want to gag. “But hey," I said, trying to make my voice sound deeper, like Tyrone's, “how does that sound, buddy?”
Mathew, who was watching me try to act like my brother, let out this huge laugh. It was so loud!
"Why? Isn't that good enough?" I asked, a little confused. He held up a finger, like he needed a second to stop laughing before he could talk.
"That was actually... perfect," he finally managed to say, still chuckling a bit. "Look, Tyana," he said, his voice becoming serious again. "I promised your brother I would keep you safe. And if I'm going to do that, you have to listen to everything I tell you, okay?”
I nodded quickly. Ever since I was about eight years old, I'd been fascinated by how my father, as the Alpha, protected our whole pack. It just seemed so important and powerful that I wanted to be just like him. But never, not even in my wildest dreams, did I think I'd actually be going to Minnesota Academy. I mean, everyone knew that academy only accepted boys. It was famous for it! I was so incredibly curious about what really went on inside those walls. No one ever really talked about it, it was like some big secret.
And now, the thought of actually being there, inside that mysterious academy... it just filled me with this buzzing excitement. I could barely contain it!
Just the other day, when Father told Tyrone about the academy, it sparked a huge argument between them. Honestly, in that moment, I wished I could have taken his place. Now, sitting in the car with Mathew, I tried to explain, "I can't always be around to be protected by you... I mean, people might start to get suspicious of both of us being so close all the time."
Mathew just grumbled in response, his voice sounding deeper and a little annoyed by what I said.
I sighed softly, letting my head droop a little. I knew he felt responsible for me, and in a way, I was definitely tied to him.
"Hey," he said, his voice a bit more serious now. "You're a girl just trying to pretend to be her brother, Tyana, and that academy is full of boys. All sorts of boys, different personalities, different sizes... Boys can be rough and tough sometimes. Trust me, that place can never be safe for any girl."
My mouth opened slightly, ready to argue that I was stronger than he gave me credit for. I was about to point out all the training I had done secretly, how I could handle myself, but just then, the car pulled to a stop right in front of the Minnesota Academy. The building loomed large and imposing.
Matthew turned to me, and I could see a deep worry line creasing his forehead. "Tyana," he started, his voice serious, "I'm not sure if you really get how big this is. There are almost a thousand men in Minnesota. These aren't just boys we grew up with, not like your brother or me. These are grown men, Tyana... and they have strong s****l urges... especially since there won't be any women around for a whole year. If they ever found out you're a girl living among them, things could become really, really bad for you. You could end up as... well, like someone they own, just for that. And that's not even mentioning Damien Arpan, the Alpha King's son…”
He paused, and I already knew who he was talking about. Damien Arpan... everyone knew that name. The Alpha King's only son, trained to be the absolute best. And yeah, I had to admit, he was incredibly good-looking. Sharp jawline, the kind of face you see on magazine covers. But then there was his reputation. He was known for rejecting girls like they were nothing, and the rumors said he slept with so many different women it was like changing his clothes.
Matthew let out a soft sigh, and his voice gently pulled me back from my swirling thoughts. "We're really here now, Tyana," he said, his eyes kind. "There's no turning back from this. You've been Tyana to me your whole life, so it's going to feel a bit strange for me to call you Tyrone, especially when I know who you truly are inside."
He reached out a hand and carefully straightened the wig I was wearing. His touch was reassuring. "From this moment on, you're not Tyana Ronan anymore. You're Tyrone Ronan. How about I just call you Ty? That might be easier for both of us.”
"Yes, sir," I replied, trying my best to make my face look a little tougher. I even attempted to deepen my voice, hoping it sounded somewhat like a boy's. It felt silly, but I wanted to try.
As we both stepped out of the car, we gathered our bags and started walking towards this enormous gate. My breath hitched as I looked up at it. It was so big and imposing, and a little shiver ran down my spine.
‘They are just boys, Tyana… just boys who are better than Alpha Theron.’ My wolf's voice echoed in my mind, strong and sure. I nodded slightly, finding comfort in her words. ‘Stop worrying so much about it. Besides, I'm here to help you figure out any problems that come up. And what are you even worried about, inside every girl there is a boy,’
“What?” I mindlinked my wolf back.
‘That came out so wrong but you know what I mean.’ My wolf fib retorted back.
"What if we just left right now… Fib?" I murmured, the thought suddenly appealing.
My wolf, Fib, practically rolled her eyes at me. ‘Are you serious right now, Tyana? This plan we've agreed on is the best one. We'll finally get away from that awful Alpha your father wants you to marry. Plus," she added with a playful tone, * "we get to be close to some hot guys and you get to do what you really enjoy… that's a pretty great bonus to an already perfect plan, no tricks involved."*
‘So, what do you say? Are you going to go back to your fiancé, or are you going to stay and see this through?’ Fib's voice was direct in my mind, waiting for my answer.
