BASTIAN There were still many things I needed to discuss with her, but the fear of not knowing if she would betray me made it hard to talk about everything. However, seeing her there at that moment, tending to my hand, made me doubt the dark intentions I had imagined because of my fear that my life would end right then and there. Her question had left me frozen. What did she have to do with all this? Silence took over. There were no sounds outside. This was normal, as I had instructed the staff not to walk through the halls when I was present, unless necessary. I couldn't risk being seen and somehow exposed as an impostor. "What do I have to do with all this?" she asked me again. She took out sterile gauze and adhesive tape from the first aid kit. She looked me in the eyes. I sighed.
