Our Wolves Within

We were really close in high school and had known one other for the majority of our lives. We did periodically hook up, but it was only for the purpose of release for us both. We both decided not to upset anyone because we were better friends than anything else.

"I wish you and Zen luck. You are going to do fantastically, "said her.

"I am grateful. While we are away, try not to get into too much trouble. I winked at her and said, "See you when we come back," before heading out to load the car.

Together, Jackson and I were driving. We wanted to arrive early so that we could settle in, even though it was just a few hours away. Making links between packs was a big part of the Alpha Games, so it was helpful to know which packs we could deal with and which we should stay away from completely.

Jackson never allowed anybody else drive his Ferrari, so I climbed into the passenger seat. However, it was a delightful ride, so I did not mind at all being a passenger.

We had the windows down because the morning was pleasant.

It was an amazing time of year. Given that it was not too hot or too cold, my grandmother would have called the weather "Goldilocks." I was happy that our pack lived in Virginia because it was a wonderful area to live. A verdant forest teeming with wildlife surrounded us. There was never a shortage of hunting opportunities because Zen adored it.

"Nightshade is the front-runner due to their eight consecutive first place finishes. But I have faith in our people," I said to Jackson.

Fighters with nightshade were f*****g fierce. They made the truth visible to all. If someone was foolish enough to attempt anything against them, they constituted threats. That was one of these games' best features. In addition to fostering understanding within packs, it assisted in reaffirming which ones were the stronger.

My father had great respect for Alpha Kade of Nightshade, an honourable Alpha. From what I recall, he was only a year older than myself. This year, I thought, I will introduce myself. What could have been the worst case scenario?

"We put in a tonne of work. Jackson thumped my chest and said, "Whatever happens will happen, but I am certain that things are changing this year."

A powerful smell came in through the open window, grabbing my whole focus, and I took a deep breath. In my mind, Zen snarled when he smelled the honey vanilla too. It was the most delicious and enticing scent I had ever encountered. It overtook my body and senses, energising it in a completely new way.

As I searched around for the source, I noticed her getting closer to Bessie's Diner.

That would explain why her image will always be in my mind.

Me and Louisa Fullilove were mates. Hell on wheels. We were too busy for me to go tell her the wonderful news, and I would hate to tell her and then have to leave for the week.

I thought the friendship would be wonderful, but I was not sure. That would be in her honour. Would she desire to be my partner? She was f*****g fantastic and gorgeous. She never really seemed like the kind of person who worried about position, even though I was an Alpha.

Louisa Luna. I imagined Zen snarling gratefully in my mind at the sound that would produce. He tried to recall if he had ever seen her wolf, but he was unable to confirm it.

Since I knew Khalid had stayed behind, I called his number. I knew he would be adept at both locating the information I wanted and keeping it under wraps, therefore he was the only one there whom I would trust with this responsibility.

"Do you already miss me?" he inquired as he answered the phone.

"You are so familiar with me," I laughed. "Observe. You have to do something for me, and you cannot tell anyone. Alright?"

Jackson gave me a weird look, but I chose to ignore him. It would not take him a minute to find out. I could not stop it from happening, so why in the world did it have to happen now? It was absurd.

I left the gathering early, before midnight. If she had been there, this might not have been a problem if I had simply stayed there. It seemed like she had just turned eighteen.

"I am going to seal my lips and fingers," he stated gravely.

"I want you to learn everything you can about Louisa Fullilove."

Jackson glared at me when there was silence on the other end of the call. His emerald eyes, which were perfect duplicates of mine, greeted me. Curiosity was bubbling to the surface in them.

"May I inquire as to why confidentiality is required for this?"

I let out a sigh and wiped my face. I hated that other people would find out before she did, but I had to tell him something. Even while it was not at all my aim, it gave me the impression that I was betraying her trust.

"As we were leaving, I smelled her; she turned eighteen today. She is my mate, and no one else can know that but you. As we were driving by, she did not notice me."

Jackson gave me a shoulder-shake. As an Alpha and a brother, he was pleased for me. With their Lunas by their sides, Alphas were the strongest. Partners served as each other's counterbalance at creation. I would need a Luna who was not afraid to pull me back into reality because, let us face it, I was a stubborn asshole sometimes.

"I give you orders as you wish. Bravo, Alpha," he exclaimed.

"I was aware of your dependability. Before ending the call, I told him to "keep me updated."

Jackson gave me a long, hard look before returning his attention to the road.

Curious, he questioned, "Why does it sound like you do not truly know anything about her?"

That was not the question I was expecting to hear. He had the option of asking dozens of others, but he decided on that one.

"She went to school one grade below me. I told him, "We never hung around in the same groups," and even I thought it was trite.

He gave a nod of approval and stated that it made sense before ending the discussion. I also let it go, knowing that he would not bring up the subject again until he felt like it.

I had been anticipating this week since going to the Alpha Games was such an amazing and thrilling event. I was now eager to finish this week so I could return home and pick up my friend.
