It was a dark and chilly night. The moon was making a slight appearance through the clouds and there were no stars to be seen. Ma and Pa had just tucked their little prince and princess in for the night. They gave each a kiss on the forehead. They were told in a whisper "I love you" before walking out of their rooms. Jane didn't know at the time but that would be the last kiss or hearing the words I love you from her parents. Ma and Pa went back to their room hoping Jane never had to find out the secrets they planned on keeping hidden from their children. What they did not know though is the truth would eventually come out. They had no idea that tonight would be the night they can no longer hide from their past.
Alex and Mary had made a nice life for themselves. Alex worked at a hardware store and Mary was a Librarian. They lived in a small town in the middle of nowhere. They have two children. Their son Sam was two years older than his sister Jane. They both attended the town's only elementary school. Sam is what you would consider a class clown. Everyone loved Sam. He always knew what to say or do to make someone laugh. Sam has blonde hair and blue eyes. Ma and Pa knew when he got older he would be popular and handsome. They wanted to make sure that he remembered that no matter the person always be kind. Jane was different though. She stayed to herself most of the time. She appeared to be a loner and Jane was okay with that. She was quiet and always had her nose in a book.
Alex and Mary owned a cute little cottage on the outskirts of town. The house had a three quarter wraparound porch with a white swing on the front side. On one of the sides there was a small wooden table with two chairs and on the other side were toys for the children when they played outside. The house itself had three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The living room where the family spent most of their time had a few pieces of mismatched furniture. It was homey to them though. Mary loves the kitchen though. She had designed it to be open and give her the ability to cook a lot of food. It had white cabinets with a pale gray countertop. An island sat in the middle with four chairs so they could eat their meals together. The house was white inside and out. The road leading up to their home was gravel as so many of them were in the town. The house was surrounded by woods. There was a fence out front so when Jane and Sam were playing they could not go onto the street. Alex and Mary were just cautious because no one lived around them. There were no other houses on that gravel road.
Jane wakes up in the early hours of the morning coughing. She opens her eyes but immediately shuts them because they are burning. She slowly cracks her eyes open to see if she can see an exit. Surveying the room the only exit she sees is the window. Getting off her bed she lays face down on the floor. She began crawling towards her window, staying as close to the floor as she could. Once she got close enough to the window she suddenly stopped because only twenty feet in front of her was a big man dressed in black from head to toe. The only part of him she could see were his eyes. What drew her attention was the fact that this man had eyes that were two different colors. His left eye was emerald green and the right one was an icy blue. Squinting her eyes shut she began to pray (please don't let him find me, please don't let him see me). Her prayers at that moment were answered when he whistled out and started running for the woods. Slowly Jane moved to the window peaking out to make sure no one else was out there. Once she was sure she climbed out of the window and fell onto the porch. Jane got up and began running away from the house. Once she thought she was safe she began to walk back to look for her Ma and Pa. She knew she could not scream for the fact that that man may still be close. After searching everywhere around the house for her family she fell to the ground sobbing. Fear took over her. What if they were still in the fire? What could she do? She continues to sob while rocking back and forth. Once there were no more tears left she looked around at the destruction of whoever that was caused. Staying still she thought where will I go? I really don't have anyone and no true friends.
