Chapter 003: The Deal
Sion looked carefully at the thick red brochure. The words "survival show" seemed to be intended to make him curious. His crimson eyes blinked a few times, accompanied by a frown, looking puzzled.
"You look curious," Terry commented, tapping the table with his index finger, making a rhythmic sound that sounded catchy to the ears. Sion stared at Terry for a while before his eyes shifted back to the brochure.
"Yes, of course I'm curious," Sion replied briefly. "Are you saying that this thing can solve my problem?"
"That's right," Terry agreed with Sion's reply. "This survival show is the answer to you needing quick money for your mother's treatment. In fact, you can ask the more to them."
The frown on Sion's forehead deepened. His eyes narrowed suspiciously. His body was tense, putting up a vigilant stance as if Terry was an enemy.
"Terry. I don't think I can take what you're suggesting to me."
The smile on Terry's face vanished, giving way to confusion. Sion could even catch a glint of fear in his bright brown eyes. "Uh, why?"
"Huh, think about it carefully," Sion leaned forward seriously. His rough hands rested on the table.
"Which show would give a million dollars? Even I can ask for more, like you said? This doesn't make sense, Terry. It must be a scam, right?"
Terry did not accept the accusation. His eyes darkened. His hands were clenched under the table until his knuckles turned white. No, this can't be happening. Don't let Sion run away from him and make his plans fall apart. He had to rebuild trust in the silver-haired man.
"What kind of scam do you mean?"
"Let's say you're going to kill me. Then my organs will be sold on the black market. I've heard of this very often. The victim is promised an huge amount of money but ends up getting killed instead," Sion said quickly without pause.
Terry blinked his eyes a few times. The reason Sion gave made sense. But he was not that crazy even if he had other intentions.
"Sion, your reasoning does make sense. But I don't intend to do you any harm. Don't you trust me?"
Sion looked at Terry closely. Those brown eyes did not imply a lie. But.... he still felt awkward about the survival show in the brochure. Especially, under these circumstances.
"I..."
"You seem to be hesitating because what I'm offering doesn't make sense?" Terry interrupted Sion's words, making the man swallow back his words.
"There's no guarantee that I can trust that you have no ill intentions towards me," Sion said softly, choosing his words carefully so that Terry wouldn't take offense.
"I do need the money, but with such an absurdly instant way like what you're offering, I should certainly think twice, right?"
Terry nodded in reply. Sion was apparently very good at analyzing. "I'll explain the details of the show first. After that, you can decide whether to follow my suggestion or not. Agreed?"
"Alright."
Terry sighed. It was time for him to talk about the details of the show he was about to organize, as per "that guy's" directions.
"I'll get straight to the point so as not to beat around the bush." Terry paused for a moment, glanced at the watch on his wrist, and counted the time, then resumed his sentence.
"The survival show that I'm going to offer you is a survival show where the person who will be the winner at the end of the show will get a lot of prizes. You must have watched survival island shows, right?"
Sion nodded his head. It was a show he often watched on television when he was tired after a long day of washing his wife's clothes. A survival show set on a deserted island, but it was all a set-up.
"Well, the show I'm going to offer is just as basic as that. But the difference is, I won't be doing a survival show on a deserted island, but in a forest for safety reasons," Terry explained at length.
"So, what will I do there? And who are the participants that will be there?"
Terry smiled again when he heard Sion's question. It seemed like he was starting to trust him. Just a little more, and Sion would be one of the pawns.
Terry cleared his throat briefly. "All you have to do is follow orders like a normal show. Then, the people who will participate in this event are very diverse."
Sion tilted his head. "What does that mean?"
"To make it more interesting, I'm mixing all walks of life who are participating. From actors and models to ordinary people like you."
Okay. Terry's words reassured him a little. Although he didn't fully believe it, he thought he should try to put his ego and feelings aside first so that he could raise money for his mother's treatment.
"Okay. So?"
Terry nodded his head. "Well, since you are the one I handpicked, then you will get a little privilege," Terry smiled mysteriously, which made Sion curious.
"What's that?"
"You can ask me for an advance on your mother's treatment. And in return, you have to join the show without refusal." Terry offered a middle ground for the two. "Wouldn't that be better for both of us?"
Sion thought hard about this big step. The great upheaval between his mind and brain began. He did not know what kind of survival show Terry was offering. If he refused, then the chance for his mother's treatment would be lost, and it would worsen his situation. But if he accepted, then he should be ready to bear all the consequences. Meanwhile, Terry kept waiting patiently.
"Sion?"
"Alright. I accept your offer," Sion said after much deliberation. "But please, give me the $1 million as you said before. Consider it a sign of a deal for both of us."
Terry smiled even wider. He took out his fancy cell phone and made a transaction with the hospital where Sion's mother was being treated. Once done, he showed him the proof of the transaction.
"Since the transaction is complete, please sign this brochure. And tomorrow, I will pick you up." Terry handed Sion a black pen.
Sion took the pen and signed the brochure. After that, he gave the pen back to Terry. "Here."
At the same time, the waiters brought the food that Terry had ordered. It was a sumptuous meal that Sion rarely ate, even though he was married into the conglomerate Harvey family.
"You eat first. I need to go to the bathroom for a while." Terry got up from his seat and quickly went to the bathroom. Once inside, he reached into his pocket and took out his cell phone, then dialed someone with the contact name "Devil Boss.".
"What's up, Terry?"
"The target is in the trap. What's the next order?"
"Don't let him run away. From here on, it's my part to take care of him."
"Okay."
The call was disconnected. Terry stared intently at the cell phone in his hand. "Hope you remember that
black code, Sion. I'm looking forward to it."
