“…started redecorating?” she probed.
“Mhm…”
Elena leaned into the chair she was occupying upon hearing Brandon's simple yet nonchalant response. Brandon had an idea of what his mother's current thoughts were based off of but decided against voicing it out. He hoped his simple response would answer most of the questions she had. Boy! was he wrong.
Looking at his tired yet lazily stoic face and calm poise. Elena felt annoyance clawing at her as she watched her son put up his guard against her. The fact that she could not see even a flicker of emotion on his face irritated the hell out of her. They both didn't like how they couldn't decipher anything from their emotionally flat faces. Yet she, as his mother was hell bent on getting to the bottom of all this. She needed them to be on the same page. She needed her baby boy to trust her like he used to growing up.
“Anything else I need to know about?” Even though she couldn't read her son's face she knew him all too well because he was just like his father. They valued their time very much and hated dragging conversation. Besides, getting on his nerve was what she needed. The more irritable he became, the easier it is to get through to him without him knowing.
Elena wasn't as simple as she portrayed herself to be. The entire pack knew the extend of her prowess and they knew not to step on any of her toes. They valued her leadership and admired her capabilities and persona. But, they were secretly more afraid of her than the alpha.
“No" upon his answer his wolf stood on all fours swearing at him.
‘Are you crazy?!’ Brandon twitched as his wolf almost tore his head apart with his screaming.
‘Stop… ‘
Brandon tried to get a hold of his wolf before it got out of hand. ‘That woman's gonna get into your big ass head again and mess with my space. She'll leave a bunch of shockwaves like last time leaving Me! Me! To clean up the mess!
‘Relax she won't!’ he insisted.
‘For f**k sake! Just tell her!’ Chaos’ back and fourth caused his panic to leak unto Brandon knowingly. He was conveying how terrified he was of his space being invaded and messed with again. He was CHAOS! Yet in front of Brandon's mom, he was just a helpless pup trying hard to stay out of her way. He wasn't ready for a rematch and he never thought he ever will be.
Brandon couldn't fathom how his devil of a wolf was so merciless and chaotic on the field. But he would turn into such a wincing pup at the sight of his mother. It was understandable when he acted a wuss in front of her, just not the same when his wolf did.
‘Do it you morron!’ chaos' lazy yet authoritative voice rang inside Brandon's head as it raised a few octaves higher. This caused a weird, painful yet swift ringing sound to occur inside Brandon's ears. It caused him to close his eyes with a slight frown gracing his handsome face for a brief moment. He was trying his hardest not to aggravate the pain.
“Your fury friend makes a lot more sense don't you think?” Brandon and chaos quickly looked at Elena with Chaos’ ears perked up in alarm. A sense of urgency washed over him as he stared at Elena with his tale tucked between his legs. Brandon's look of surprise did not go unnoticed with his face fairing no better than chaos'.
Squinting his blue eyes at his mother, Brandon tried to discern why it didn't hurt this time.
‘How the…’ Chaos cut in ‘…I don't know man. You better open that pretty mouth of yours boy. Tell her right this instant!’ he was already antsy, looking at the woman that scared the s**t out of him sitting in front of them with a calm, breezed expression.
“A distracted mind is easily an invaded mind” the lopsided smirk on her serene face sent shockwaves down one's spine. It disappeared just as fast as it had etched onto her face, replaced by a charmingly lazy expression as Elena leaned forward.
“So?...” Brandon watched as his mother rested both her elbows on top of the table. Gracefully intertwining her fingers, Elena lightly rested her chin on top of them. Her simple yet beautifully manicured fingers on were on full display.
“What's going on Brandon?” Her eyes were accusatory as she pinned them on his face.
With his mother's posture like this, he knew that it wasn't a good sign. Any calm and collected posture from his mother is never a good sign. Making up his mind, he was about to bee honest with her when she suddenly stood up.
He watched her figure rise from the chair as it slightly screeched onto the wooden floor from being pushed back.
“Alright..” she walked to the door giving Brandon the impression that she was letting things go since he didn't seem like he was going to talk about it. Just as he pushed his chair back with a relieved sigh. His mother paused her steps right at the door. Without turning back she gave off a very unfriendly chuckle.
“ Does Alia know about this?...” Brandon had a lazy smirk on his face with his hands already in his pockets. Hearing his mother's question triggered warning bells in his head. Instantly, his smirk vanished replaced by a slight frown. His posture too straightened out unknowingly as he watched his mother's back warily.
“…or, should I be the one to inform her about this…little situation?” With her back towards Brandon her smirk turned into a smile as she felt the room temperature changing. At this point her son had played right into her hands. If he hadn't been this emotionally invested he'd realise how much her mother was playing with him.
She had already reached out to open the door when all of a sudden it wouldn't budge. Her forehead creased a little until she felt a suppressing aura beside her. With a sudden realisation, Elena let go of the door handle and turned her head slightly to look at her son with a displeased look on her face.
“You don't need to go that far, mother.” Gritting his teeth, displeasure could be heard dripping from his words. His voice changed with every word like an uncomfortable dark cloak descending onto them. Looking at her son, Elena’s expression changed a little upon seeing his dark gaze and protruding dark veins. She knew then that she had to end it before it all got out of control.
Well…too late!
Brandon's aura was getting too uncomfortable to bare with as he began getting out of control. With this kind of situation, given the chance to end her life – He won't hesitate nor would he have to lift any finger to do it. Enough amount of his aura could end her pathetic life.
Bracing herself, Elena stared right into to dark orbs and used all her might to send her warning using her eyes. From the rapidly oppressing atmosphere, she thought it hasn't worked feeling her organs starting to convulse.
It's over!
