-Kane-
Stretched out in my father’s chair, I stared at the ceiling and exhaled slowly. Lilian refused to leave my thoughts. I hadn’t expected her to get under my skin so quickly, nor so deeply. She hadn’t needed to try. It was her scent, sharp and untamed. Her fire. The way she looked at me like she would rather burn the world than bow to it. And god help me, the way she stood her ground. That alone told me everything I needed to know about her strength.
Lilian was not fragile. She was not easily broken. And her body.
God.
Every curve was burned into my memory. The way her hips flared, how perfectly she would fit the length of my hands. When I’d looked down at her body, everything in me had reacted instantly, the instinct along with hunger and the dangerous possession. When she slapped me, I’d expected it.
I’d welcomed it. That alone told me she wasn’t weak, Lilian was the kind of woman you didn't break, you claimed or you got burnt. And I wanted her, badly.
“She’s ticking all the right boxes,” I muttered.
Apollo stirred, low and restless, his presence coiling tight inside my chest. Lena. That was the name she’d cried out.
Was that her wolf? Apollo could scent her, but it was wrong, muted, restrained, like something was blocking the bond. It irritated me, but irritated him more.
“I know,” I murmured. “You want her, and so do I.”
A knock interrupted my thoughts.
“Enter.”
Tom stepped inside, relief spread across his face.
“Ah, Tom. I’m glad you came to me,” I said, rising. “And… I owe you an apology. For earlier, and for my mother.” He bowed instinctively.
“Please, no formalities. You’ve done nothing wrong.” He smiled faintly. “I’m just glad you’re safe, Kane. I should’ve kept up with you in the courtyard. I’ll train harder.” That sparked an idea.
“In that case,” I said thoughtfully, “I have a task for you. One that requires discretion.” His brows furrowed as I placed an arm around his shoulder and guided him toward the door.
“We’ll walk,” I said. “And I’ll explain.”
After training with Alex, after pushing myself harder than necessary, I stood beneath the hot spray of the shower, letting the steam cloud my thoughts but it didn’t help. Lilian lingered in my mind like a phantom presence.
Her body, her defiance, and her voice. I closed my eyes, braced my hands against the tiled wall, and forced myself to breathe. I felt it before I saw her.
A hand on my shoulder, I turned and she was there.
Bare for me, and wet. Pressing me back against the tile with surprising strength. Her hands slid over my chest, her body flush against mine, heat pooling everywhere.
“Kane,” she whispered.
I grabbed her hips, pulling her tighter, groaning as her mouth crashed onto mine. Lilian tasted like hunger, a challenge. Like she was already mine. She kissed me hard, desperate, tongue slipping past my lips as she moaned softly against my mouth. I deepened it instantly, hands roaming, claiming, gripping her ass and pulling her closer until there was nothing between us.
I slapped her arse lightly, making her gasped, and I was loving it.
Fuck.
I was hard, painfully so. Lilian knew it. She smiled at me, slow and wicked, before sinking to her knees in front of me.
“Lilian…”
She wrapped her hand around me and took me into her mouth without hesitation, deep and confident. I groaned, head falling back as my fingers dug into the wall. Her mouth was perfect. So wet, so warm. She took all of me, moving in a rhythm that had my knees threatening to buckle.
I couldn’t last.
I came hard, spilling everywhere, breath torn from my lungs. My hand slapped against the tile as I dragged myself upright, and the shower was empty.
No Lilian, just surrounded by steam and my own harsh breathing. I stared at the wall; my chest was heaving as my pulse pounded painfully between my legs. I hadn’t realised it was a daydream until it was over.
Jesus Christ.
I didn’t realised she had that much effect on me, when I dressed and composed by the time I returned to my room, Alex was already waiting.
“Took your time,” he said dryly. I ignored him, pulling clothes from the drawers.
“We need to talk about your next steps with the woman in question.”
“You mean Lilian,” I snapped. He raised a brow but followed me into the corridor as guards approached.
“Prince Snyder,” one said, bowing. “The Queen requests to see you and General Stone immediately.” We followed.
At the base of the guard staircase, my mother was already issuing orders, there were suitcases being moved, guards were mobilising.
“Everything alright, Mother?”
She smiled. “Just in time, Kane. I’m leaving the castle for a bit. Your Aunt Jules needs to see me.” She turned to Alex. “You’re in charge of security while I’m gone.” Alex bowed. “Of course, my Queen.”
She kissed my cheek before leaving.
Once the doors closed, Alex spoke quietly. “At least she won’t find out about Lilian upstairs.”
“For now.” I agreed. Alex filled me in. Her full name, Working at a hospital called Moss-View, being a newly qualified nurse.
“She mentioned someone named Noah,” I added, Apollo let out a growl as irritation crept in.
Alex smirked. “Jealousy?”
“I don’t like the unknowns. Especially when she has males around her who are not known to us.”
“Maybe don’t jump the gun,” he said. “Ask her to dinner, talk to her. Make her comfortable.”
The idea slot into place. Now my mother wasn’t around I could let Lilian have some freedom.
“Yes,” I said sharply. “That’s exactly what I’ll do.”
He nodded. “I’ll make arrangements.” As he left, I exhaled slowly, fists clenching, our first dinner. Casual conversations but make no mistake.
Lilian Tyler was already under my skin, and whether she realised it yet or not…
She was mine.
