The attempt is not enough to do any damage, sadly.     Dominic wakes up on the ride in the ambulance, squashed against a tiny stretcher and with a flurry of different faces swarming over him, so clearly trying to revive him. "No," he moans through his swollen throat.      They strap a band around his arm, sticking him with a needle, and Dominic watches it all happen. It clicks in his brain somewhere that he is awake. That the swaying metallic ceiling is that of an emergency response vehicle, and that these are legit paramedics. It occurs to him that he is not in Heaven. Or Hell.
