The professor walked in, and the class started. He began his lecture, and I pretended to listen, but my mind was elsewhere, thinking of Evelyn, of the next steps I would take. I glanced at the clock every few minutes, feeling the time crawl by.
The professor's words blended into the background noise as I let my thoughts drift. Hours dragged by, and finally, the lecture came to an end. I stood up, ready to move on to my next class. Four long hours later, my classes were finally over. I left without a word, heading straight toward the East Wing. My footsteps echoed in the empty hallway as I walked with purpose. I had something in mind, and nothing was going to stop me today. As I entered the East Wing, I saw a girl standing nearby, talking on her phone. Perfect. I adjusted my posture, putting on a friendly smile. I approached her slowly.
"Excuse me," I said in a calm voice. "Can you tell me the way to the principal's office? I'm new here." She looked up, surprised at first, but then nodded quickly. Sure, it's on the other side of the building," she replied.
She started to lead the way, and I followed, keeping my steps light. As we moved further into the less crowded area, I noticed the shadows growing thicker around us.
No one else was nearby. It was the perfect spot. Suddenly, I grabbed her by the shoulders and pushed her roughly against the wall. Her eyes widened in panic.
“What are you doing?" she stammered, trying to push me away, her hands trembling against my chest. Her heart was racing. I could hear it, like music to my ears. I chuckled darkly, my true nature starting to surface.
“Just shut up, b***h," I hissed. I could feel my fangs growing longer, my eyes turning crimson red. The hunger surged inside me, making my senses sharper.
"Now," I said in a commanding voice, "look me straight in the eyes." Her gaze met mine, and I saw the fear fading, her body relaxing as my compulsion took hold.
“You are going to stay quiet and will not move," I continued, watching her expression turn blank, obedient. "
“Take this note," I added, holding out a piece of paper. “After I'm done with you, you will give this note to the girl named Evelyn in your wing. And then you will walk away without saying anything else. You will forget everything that happened here." She nodded slowly, taking the note from my hand, her eyes glazed over, completely under my control. Without wasting another second, I sank my fangs deep into her neck. Her blood flooded into my mouth, warm and sweet, satisfying that burning thirst that had been building all morning. I drank for a few moments, savouring every drop, feeling her energy flow into me, making me stronger.
But I couldn't afford to draw too much attention, so I pulled back, licking my lips clean. I whispered a quick spell, watching as the bite marks vanished from her neck. There, no one would suspect a thing.
“Now go," I commanded.
“Do as I say." She turned, walking away like nothing had happened, and I watched her go, a satisfied smile playing on my lips. Everything was falling into place. Evelyn wouldn't know what hit her. And soon enough, she would realize that no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't escape me. I slipped back into my human form, letting the hunger in my veins cool down as I followed the girl from a distance. My footsteps were silent, my gaze fixed on her as she made her way toward the East Wing.
I kept to the shadows, standing at the corners of the hallway, watching carefully, making sure she did what I had compelled her to do. I could see Evelyn standing near her friends, her eyes focused on her phone, unaware of what was about to happen.
She looked as beautiful as ever, the moon light streaming through the windows catching in her hair, making her skin glow. My breath hitched at the sight of her, but I forced myself to stay focused.
The girl approached her, and I saw Evelyn's eyebrows knit together in confusion. She looked up, curious, as the girl handed her the note. I held my breath, waiting. Her friends immediately gathered around her, crowding too close for my liking. I clenched my fists, feeling a sharp stab of jealousy as her male friends leaned in, their faces too close to hers. I had told her to stay away from every guy, but it seemed she didn't listen. She never listened. And then, one of those bastard playfully punched her shoulder. A wave of anger surged through me.
My hands itched to grab him by the throat, to feel his bones crack beneath my grip. I wanted to rip him apart, piece by piece, for daring to touch what was mine. How dare he? My eyes blazed with fury as I watched Evelyn look around, her face twisted in annoyance. And then her gaze landed on me. I saw her glare, her eyes narrowing, filled with anger.
I felt a surge of satisfaction. Good. She had noticed me. But that satisfaction quickly turned to rage when she tore the note in half, her lips curling in defiance.
“No one," she said loudly, making sure I could hear every word.
“Just a stupid bastard trying to ruin my day." She crumpled the note in her hand and threw it to the ground, her glare fixed on me like a challenge. I felt a growl rumble in my chest as I watched her grab that guy's hand, the same one she kissed on stage and pull him toward the cafeteria.
My vision blurred with red. I could feel the heat building in my chest, my fangs pressing against my gums, aching to come out. I was fuming with anger, my mind racing with possessive, jealous thoughts. I had told her to stay away from every guy. I had warned her. But she had chosen to ignore me. To defy me.
“You will regret this, Evelyn," I thought to myself, my blood boiling with rage.
"You will regret touching that guy. You will regret even breathing his air. And you will regret tearing up my note like it meant nothing. Just wait and watch, my sweet human. I will make sure you remember who you belong to." I could feel my nails digging into my palms, the urge to break something to hurt someone coursine throngh me. But I forced myself to stay calm, This wasn't over. Not by a long shot. Turning away, I walked back down the hall toward where my friends were waiting. I had plans to make, and Evelyn was about to learn that when it came to me, there was no escape.
