Chapter Six

1450 Words
Sawyer was really enjoying working for Donovan. He was a nice boss so far. And Evan was a doll. She hated leaving Shelly behind at the day care center. Donovan suggested keeping Shelly there at the home with her! He did not like day care centers either. Sawyer was overjoyed her boss was letting her have more time with her baby girl. Shelly loved helping with little Evan. It sure helped the time pass by. It almost did not seem like work at all to Sawyer. She loved her new job. From what Sawyer saw Donovan with Evan he was such a great dad. Any lady would be lucky to snag Donovan as a step-father one day. "Mr. Spencer, there is a roast in the oven for you. I am getting ready to head out. Do you need anything before I leave?" Sawyer questions Donovan whom was laying on the couch napping a bit. He always seemed so over worked. So very tired. Sawyer's heart went out to him. "Donovan? Mr. Spencer?" she replies his name softly. No answer. She reaches her hand out to him. Gently shakes his shoulder. His pretty brown eyes flutter open. Looking right into hers with surprise in them. Never had she saw such pretty eyes on a grown man like this. He nearly captures her heart with a simple sleepy sexy gaze. "I am sorry! I fell asleep again" he yawns sitting up. He rubbed the back of his neck. He looked like he was in a bit of pain. "Something wrong Mr. Spencer?" she asks him. "Oh I slept on the couch. Now I have the worst crick in my neck. It hurts so badly" he groans. "Well I was going to be a nurse. I went to school until I had Shelly. I took classes on how to be a masseuse. I could massage your back for you. If you want me to" she offers. "Really? Yes that would be great. I have some baby oil over there" he tells her. He takes off his shirt in a hurry. He was beautiful. She sucks in her breath at the sight of her boss broad back muscles showing. He worked out, and it sure showed. He had a large tattoo on his back. She was not sure what it was. She was trying her best not to stare at this gorgeous man. But it was so hard not to! "Lay down flat on your tummy" she says softly to him as she grabs the baby oil off the counter. He lays flat on his tummy. Hugging a soft pillow. He waits for her. She nervously opens the cap of the bottle of baby oil. She pours a little baby oil on his broad back. The smell of coconut from the oil hit her nicely. She begins to rub her fingers over his sore back. She rubs his back gently as she can. "Mmm, that feels so good Sawyer. Why did you quit nursing school?" he wonders making small talk as she rubs his muscular back. "I had to once I was going to have Shelly. I did not have a sitter in line for her. I was getting ready to be a mommy. I was dealing with her father at the time. I could not afford to work two jobs and keep going to school" she explains. "Wow, working two jobs just to go to school while getting ready to be a mother. You are pretty amazing Sawyer" he remarks making her blush with pleasure. "Me? Amazing? Not really Mr. Spencer" she chuckles. "Call me Donovan. We are past the formalities' now don't you think?" he asks her softly making her heart flutter faster. "Sure, sure...I can call you Donovan if you wish" she replies. "Good!" he says. "Your fingers are working their magic on me" he sighs happily. "I am sure glad it is working for you. You need to make sure to sleep in your bed. The couch will hurt your neck" she worries over him. "Once that little one sleeps all through the night I can sleep in my bed again" he sighs. "Is it hard for you to get used to being a father?" she wonders. "It was. At first. I was shocked. My life changed drastically. I knew I needed help. Badly. Then you came in Sawyer. Kind of like being my savior" he remarks as he turns around to face her. Those eyes. Looking right into hers now. Captivating her. She found it hard to breathe now. They sat inches away from each other now. How could one man be so beautiful? "We both have known some hard times Donovan. I am no one's savior" she chuckles softly. He smiles at her sitting up closer to her now. He gazes at her. Trying to read her thoughts. He reaches up gently touching her cheek with his hand. She could not help but wonder what it would be like to kiss him. His lips tempted her to find out. Did he want her to kiss him? Or was it all in her head? Just something she was wanting? Maybe she was taking things to far here.... ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ "Come back Norton! Norton!" giggles Shelly suddenly. Shelly chases Norton into the room as a ball bounces right past Sawyer and Donovan breaking what spell had been spun there in the living room. Sawyer gets up off of Donovan. Coming to her senses. "Shelly no ball in the house" warns Sawyer. "Mom" whines Shelly. "Now, go clean-up" demands Sawyer. "Stay for dinner" pipes up Donovan. "What? Oh we could not impose" Sawyer tells him. "Please? I get awfully lonely here" he begs of her. "Alright. One time. We do not want to be in over staying our welcome" she says smiling. She walks over to the kitchen to wash the baby oil off her. Donovan grabs as towel and wipes the oil off of himself before placing a shirt on. The oven beeped letting her know dinner was done. "It sure smells good" remarks Donovan. "I hope you like it. It is a simple pot roast. You can cook the veggies right in with it at the same time" points out Sawyer with pride. "You are a good cook. A woman of many talents Sawyer. I like that" he teases. She grins. "Not really. I had to learn. Or Shelly and I would starve" she laughs. She begins to cut the roast. She hears little Evan cry loudly on the baby monitor. "Someone else is up" she says. "Here I will take care of the roast. Work your magic on that little one" says Donovan. He takes control in the kitchen. Sawyer walks over to the play pen. She picks up the wailing infant. She rocks him on her shoulder. "Hi there little fella" she coos. He was wet. She lays a blanket down on the floor. She changes him and his clothing. She cradles the sweet baby boy in her embrace. "You will be a little heartbreaker like your daddy" she jokes as she looks at Evan. Evan peaks his eyes out at her. She smiles. "Sweet thing" she coos. She sits down on the couch with the baby. He begins to fuss on her again. "Mommy why do babies cry all the time?" wonders Shelly as she comes over to sit beside Sawyer and the baby. "That is the only way babies can tell us what they need. They can't talk yet. So when they cry they are telling us there is something wrong. Or something they need" explains Sawyer. "I see" says Shelly. "He is cute huh mom? Was I cute when I was a baby?" "You were the cutest baby I ever saw" promises Sawyer. "What is the matter little guy?" coos Sawyer as she tries to calm down a fussy Evan. "Here you are. I think this will calm the big guy down" jokes Donovan as he hands Sawyer a ready-made bottle. "Shelly if you are ready for dinner it is all set for you" offers Donovan. "What is for dinner?" Shelly asks. "Pot roast" says Sawyer. "One of my favorites" says Shelly. "What is your all-time favorite?" wonders Donovan. "Pizza" says Shelly as she gets off the couch. "Pizza....I should have known" jokes Donovan. "Mac and cheese would have been my second guess" he jokes. "I love that too" pipes up Shelly. Donovan winks at Sawyer. She grins. She loved her new job. She had to be careful not to fall in love with her boss to. It might be easy to do! •♥•♥•♥•♥•♥•♥•♥•♥•
