Sawyer felt so stupid! Of course Donovan would have another girl! He was a billionaire! He could have anyone he wanted! Why did she think she was something special to him? She was nothing more than a nanny.
After seeing Quinn there with Donovan she spent most of her time avoiding him after work. She did not linger there. She did not hang around having dinner. Or offering back rubs. That was over for her. She was going to keep their relationship strictly professional.
The doorbell rang one day at Donovan's when she was working. She went to answer the door. There was that lady she saw in his embrace the other night.
"Hi may I help you?" she asks.
"Is Donovan home from work?" asks the lady.
"Oh no, not yet" says Sawyer. The lady brings in luggage. Was she staying?
"I am coming to help Donovan. He might not need a nanny around much longer" says the lady.
"Oh is that so?" stammers Sawyer.
"I have come to offer my service to him. I have been lifelong friends as well as lovers with the man. He needs me" declared the lady.
"I don't know any of Mr. Spencer's personal life. But that is nice you will offer him help" says Sawyer.
"My name is Quinn Masters. You call me Miss. Masters. Got it? You are the help. You should have proper manners around Donovan's guests" demands Quinn.
"Mom! I taught Norton a new trick! Look!" squeals an excited Shelly as she leads Norton in the room. Norton knocks into Quin with excitement.
"Look where you are going! Who is this?" Quinn demands to know. She makes a face at Shelly.
"This is my daughter Shelly" explains Sawyer.
"Why is your daughter here at a place of work? That is so unprofessional" Quin chimes in as she wrinkles her nose in dislike at Sawyer.
"Well Mr. Spencer had said it is alright I keep Shelly here with me" explains Sawyer. Though she did not have to explain anything to Quinn.
"I am going to ask you to leave my friends home" states Quinn.
"Excuse me?" stammers Sawyer in shock.
"You heard me. You are not giving little Edward the proper attention he needs with this little rug rat running around the place. I will not have it. I will tell Donovan of this. You need to leave. Now. Take HER with you" demands Quinn.
"First of all the babies name is NOT Edward. It is Evan..."
"Why are you still here?" Quinn demands as she heads to the babies room.
Sawyer fumed inside. Never had she been treated this way on a job. She did not need this. Screw Donovan. And screw his ladies in his life. She could line up another job. She was not going to work another moment alongside of QUINN.
"Sawyer? Something wrong?" Donovan answers when she calls.
"Shelly and I will be leaving" she says on the other end.
"What? You can't leave! Who will take care of Evan? Sawyer what made you decide this?" he declares sounding upset.
"Why don't you ask your new nanny QUINN? She is here to take care of Evan, Mr. Spencer" says Sawyer.
"Quinn? Quinn is there now?" he stammers before she hangs up the phone on him.
"Good riddance Mr. Spencer" grumbles Sawyer after she hangs up.
"Mommy, I don't want to leave. I like Mr. Spencer. And Evan. Norton to" whimpers Shelly.
"Come on. We will find something better. We always do baby girl" Sawyer replies as she takes her daughter by the hand to lead the way out.
"You still here?" calls out Quinn from upstairs.
"Leaving now" snaps Sawyer as she slams the door behind her.

She heads home with Shelly. Taking the subway downtown. Heading to the apartments. Back to her life. She never fit in that part of the world. She never would. It was nice to be a part of it for a little while.
She would never forget Evan. Or Donovan. Though he would forget her in no time. Her cell phone rings. It was Donovan's office calling her again. She let it go to voicemail. She did not want to hear what that man had to say.
She would have to call and get another job lined up soon. So she could keep her new apartment. She promised Shelly they would not have to move again. She meant it. She wanted to keep her promise. Shelly laid on her mother's lap as they sat on the subway. Sawyer ran her fingers through her hair.
Soon they got to their apartment complex. They headed up to the fourth floor. Sawyer began to wonder what she was going to do for dinner that night. She did not have a full fridge as Donovan always had to pick from.
She had to make do with what she had there. She decided to make some roman noodles for the night. She had a can of green beans left to. And a little bit of applesauce in the bottom of the jar. She placed a VHS tape in for Shelly to watch on their old tv. They had one little tv. Not a flat screen like Donovan had.
"When will dinner be done?" yawns Shelly as she lay upside down off the little second hand couch while she stood on her head.
"Pretty soon here" Sawyer says as the water begins to boil in the pot for the roman noodles.
"Can I be Harry Potter for Halloween?" wonders Shelly as she watched the movie.
"Maybe" answers Sawyer. Halloween was a long ways away. The night flew by for them. Donovan tried to call her phone a few more times. She finally placed her phone off for the rest of the night.
"Dinner is done" she calls out to Shelly once the meal was ready.
"Roman! Yummy" says Shelly as she scrambles to get in one of the chairs at the small kitchen table. Sawyer's chairs did not match. There was only two little chairs. One for her. One for Shelly. That was all they needed.
"Glad you approve" says Sawyer as she smiles. She pours them the last of the milk. After dinner she gives Shelly a shower. Then gets the pull out couch ready for Shelly to go to bed. She only lived in a one room apartment. So Shelly slept on the couch.
"Maybe one day we will have an apartment with two bedrooms. And maybe have a cat?" wonders Shelly as Sawyer tucks her daughter in for the night.
"Maybe" laughs Sawyer. "Keep dreaming big. Never give up"
"Mom I love you" Shelly declares as she hugs her mother around the neck. Sawyer smiles. She hugs Shelly.
"I love you to baby" Sawyer promises her.
Sawyer leaves a little light on in the kitchen for Shelly to see to go to the bathroom at night. She takes a shower herself after cleaning up the mess in the kitchen from dinner. Sawyer dry's her hair in her bedroom so she does not wake Shelly up. She sighs as she gets her pjs on for the night. She plays Donovan's message on her voicemail. Just to see what he had to say.
"Listen to me. Sawyer, I did not ask Quinn to come over. To be the new nanny. Really. I am so sorry about all of this. Please Sawyer call me. I hope you are not to pissed off at me. I am sure you are. You have every right to be. Sawyer call me"
Most of the messages were that way. Sawyer call me. Sawyer ignored Mr. Spencer's request. She did not have to work alongside bitches like Quinn. She was not about to. It was not worth her time. She was over it. She went to bed not giving Mr. Spencer a second thought for the night....
"Ms. Carter! Ms. Carter get up! There is a fire! FIRE!" screams someone as they pound on her door. Sawyer woke to beeping of fire alarms. She could hear screaming. Her heart began to pound faster.
"SAWYER! SHELLY!" calls out her land lady Mrs. Vincent in desperation.
"I am up! I am up!" calls out Sawyer as she rushes to the door. Smoke filled her apartment after opening the door.
"Mommy! Mommy!" cries Shelly in fear."What is going on?" cries Shelly. Sawyer grabs Shelly.
Mrs. Vincent rushes them down the stairs out of the smoke. Sawyer begins to gag from the smoke fumes as she presses Shelly's face close to her body to keep her baby girl safe. They make their way outside. The fire truck was parked in front of the apartment complex.
"What happened?" Sawyer gasps as she sees how badly the fire had spread.
"Something happened on the third floor" sighs Mrs. Vincent. She shakes her head which was piled up high with pink curlers on her head. Wearing a hot pink bathrobe.
"What are we going to do now?" Sawyer worries as she tries to fight back tears of fear. Mrs. Vincent places her arm around her shoulder as they watched the firemen fight the flames.
