Emma surveyed her surroundings, wincing as she felt the pain from her bruised rear end, realizing she was in an unfamiliar bedroom. She couldn’t remember how she had ended up here. As she took a deep breath and attempted to get up, the door to the bedroom was suddenly flung open.
Startled, Emma looked up.
The first thing she saw was a young man's handsome face. His strikingly defined features and the rebellious aura he exuded left a deep impression on her heart, which rarely fluttered for anyone.
Ethan frowned as he looked at the woman sitting on the floor. The longing gaze in her clear eyes didn't escape his notice.
"I didn’t know you preferred sleeping on the floor," he said in a low, mocking tone. Emma snapped back to reality, embarrassed to retract her gaze.
"Sorry." She inexplicably apologized and then seemed to remember something as she looked up at him again. "Excuse me, where is this? What happened?"
Ethan raised an eyebrow, his sharp gaze on Emma's delicate face.
She didn’t seem to be pretending ignorance. Was it possible that she genuinely couldn’t remember what had happened?
"I found you fainted by my car on the way home," he explained briefly.
Emma lowered her head, deep in thought. When her eyes landed on a familiar suitcase by the entrance, fragmented memories began to surface in her mind. Finally, she recalled the scene just before she fainted.
Ethan observed her expression and understood that she was piecing together the events.
"I think you should explain why you fainted next to my car. You nearly caused me an accident," he said.
Emma looked remorseful and apologized, "I’m sorry. It was unintentional." She then recounted what had happened in detail.
Ethan nodded in understanding. "Those types are usually drug addicts. They resort to robbery when they can’t afford their fix. Especially someone like you, coming from the countryside, you’re an easy target."
Emma fell silent, feeling a little embarrassed. It was true that she came from the countryside, but she didn't understand why his words made her feel somewhat uncomfortable.
