As we finished our meal I let out a contented sigh . “I’m so full Sally that calamari was amazing”.
Sally patting her stomach , “I know right the Mac and cheese was heavenly I’m stuffed .”
We then asked for the bill and as we waited we took out our phones to Vlog and take pictures of the restaurant and the cozy atmosphere of the Blue marine Restaurant .
“I have to post this on i********: ,”Sally said , snapping a photo of the bar area and the seafood display they had in a glassy cupboard
“The lightning is perfect here” .She exclaimed.
“I know”.I then took a selfie in front of the blue marine logo to show people that I was at that restaurant.
This place is a must visit for seafood lovers I said .
As we finished up I couldn’t shake off the feeling of being watched .
My eyes scanned around the restaurant but the guy who had been staring at us was nowhere to be found .
Hey Sally , “do you think that guy was really just a coincidence ?” I asked my voice low .
Sally’s expressions turned intense. “I don’t know Angie but with everything that’s been happening I’m starting to get a little spooked .”
I nodded in agreement. “Me too ,it’s like what are the chances of all of these suspicious things happening on our way to Cape Town”.
Just then , dark clouds outside accumulated the whole sky, wind picked up. The sunlight that had been streaming through the windows disappeared replaced by grey rainy clouds.
“Wow look at that “,Sally said pointing outside the weather changed so quickly.
Sally’s prediction came to my mind of what she had said earlier on, that when it’s really hot , there are always high chances of heavy rains . I guess she was right .
We tipped the waitress 80 percent of the bill . Her eyes beamed in disbelief and joy .
She hugged us , forgetting to be formal . To us it wasn’t a big deal , instead satisfying to see that she appreciates the tip we gave her .
We finished up and left the restaurant heading back to our car. As we drove away from the Blue Marine , the rain started to drizzle. We took it lightly assuming it was just a passing shower.
But as we drove further the rain grew heavier and the wind picked up the dusty ,bushy road became slippery and treacherous .
Whoa !, this is getting intense ,”Sally said , gripping the steering wheel tightly.
“I know , I have never seen a storm come in so quickly ,”I said nodding , my heart racing , beating so fast .
Suddenly , a loud clap of thunder boomed outside , making us both jump.
The rain poured down onto the car , reducing visibility to almost zero.
And then in a flash of lightning, a streetlight pole in front of us was struck , crashing to the ground mere feet away our car.
Sally and I screamed in unison, our hearts racing with fear . The car skidded to a stop , and we sat there , froze in shock .
“Are you okay ?” Sally whispered her voice shaking .
I couldn’t utter a word , still trying to process what had just happened .
I then responded after a few minutes of processing , “ Y-yes . I think so .”my voice trembling with fear .
Sally took a deep breath and put the car in the gear .
“We need to get out of here , now.”
As we drove away the wreckage , the storm still raging around us . I couldn’t shake of the feeling that we were being watched and that something was awaiting for us just around the corner.
It came to my mind that this trip to Cape Town was going to be a lot more eventful than I had anticipated.
As we kept on driving down the road , the storm did not get any better. The car suddenly lurched to a stop . We were stuck in a mud puddle .
The mud had became too thick , too slippery and the tires spun futilely , failing to gain traction.
Sally’s eye widened in panic as she turned to me , “what do we do now ?,” she exclaimed.
I shook my head feeling a sense of dread wash over me . “I don’t know . Let’s try calling Daniel or someone for help .”
That’s where I realised that there was no signal at all .
“Sally there’s no signal,”my voice trembled with trauma .
We sat there helpless and cluess as the rain pounded against the car .
Minutes ticked by , each one feeling like an eternity .
We were trapped, alone and vulnerable with no way to escape.
As hours dragged on our anxiety grew. We started to lose hope . Would anyone ever find us ? Would anyone we be stuck here forever ?.
The rain showed no signs of mercy, drumming against the car like arelentless drumbeat . The darkness outside seem to press on us, making our confinement feel even more oppressive.
Sally and I hugged together trying to find comfort in each other’s presence. But even our combined body heat couldn’t chase away the chill that had settled over us .
Just when we thought all was lost,a figure appeared out of the darkness .It was a tall lanky man with a kind face and rugged jacket who looked like he had been driving for hours.
“Hey there Ladies,” he said his voice warm and friendly “looks like you are stuck ,how long have you guys been stuck here.”
Sally and I spoke at the same time ,”Please May you help us , We begged .
The man nodded smiling at us then said “of course I’ve got a rope in my truck. I will pull you out.
As he set to Work , Sally and I watched in amazement .He expertly tied up the rope to our car to his truck then he began to pull .The car creaked and groaned ,but slowly inch by inch it began to move.
Sally and I cheered our spirits lifting . We going to make it out of this after all .
But as the car finally broke free from the mud ,we realised that we were shaken , traumatised .
We’d been through hell and it left us feeling raw and vulnerable.
As we thanked the man , I checked my watch . It was half past six pm . We had been stuck for over an hour and a half .
The man who had helped us kept on avoiding eye contact with us as if he was hiding something .
He asked us if we okay .
Sally and I exchanged a glance , we were more than shaken . We were traumatised but we nodded , trying to play it cool .
“Yeah , Yeah , we are fine ,”We said in unison ,trying to sound calm .
The man nodded sympathetically, “well you are safe now .”
As we drove away , Sally turned to me , “we ddnt even get his name ,” she said her voice barely above a whisper.
I shook my head “I know I was too stunned to even think.”
We drove in silence for a moment deep in Our thoughts.
Finally Sally spoke up. “We actually lucky to be alive ,things could have been worse if we didn’t get help on time .”
I nodded feeling a sense of gratitude washing over me . “ We sure are .”
Sally said her voice in disbelief “God is faithful for the fact that we managed to get out the chaos we were in ,what more would we want God to do for us ?”
I turned to Sally and said “Praise the Lord , this is a day that I will never forget .
Sally smiled , her eyes shinning with tears , “Me too , Me too.
But I couldn’t shake off the thought of that man who helped us who kept on avoiding eye contact , fishy right?
