Chapter 3

Sally gently lifted my foot onto her lap, carefully removing the flip flop .

I winced as Sally examined my ankle , her eyes looking at the swollen skin .

“It’s pretty swollen,”Sally said with a concerning voice . “ We need to apply some ice on this as soon as possible”. Sally rummaged through the nearby first aid kit . Pulling out an instant cold pack .

She then wrapped it gently around my ankle ,securing it with a bandage .

As Sally rubbed the ankle in , soothing motions, I kept my eyes closed letting out a soft sigh .

The tension in my body began to ease , replaced by a sense of relief.

Just as I was starting to relax ,my phone buzzed.

I opened my eyes to see Daniel’s name flashing on the screen .A knot formed in my stomach as I hesitated wondering if I should answer or not .

“Hey” , I finally answered trying to sound casual despite the growing unease in my chest .

“Hey babe “, Daniel said , “I heard that you hurt your ankle . What happened?”

I got confused immediately . How do you know I got injured ? “”I glanced at Sally as she raised an eyebrow.

Daniel’s laughter sent a shiver down my spine. “ I just heard from a friend don’t worry about it ,just take care of yourself okay.”

My eyes met Sally’s ,both of them exchanging a spectacle. Something didn’t add up.

As soon as I hung up Sally spoke up “that’s so weird.” How did he know you got hurt ?Sally’s eyes narrowed “and why did he sound so off ?”

Sally’s expressions turned thoughtful .

“I’m surprised as you are ,what’s happening it’s like he’s watching you ,”Sally said. Sally’s grip on my ankle tightened. “Be careful right here.”

My eyes widened as a shiver went down my spine “that’s exactly what it feels like .”

I tried reflecting back to the past few days trying to recall if anything unusual had happened .

That’s when I remembered the strange feeling I had today earlier on in my car .

“Do you think he could be tracking me or something .what if he has a little spy following me around,” I asked my voice barely above a whisper .

Sally’s eyes locked into my eyes. “But we are going to find out,” Sally’s Jaw set in determination.

“How about we check your car and see if we can find something?.

My heart started racing throbbing very fast as I nodded

I had a feeling that my life was about to change in ways I couldn’t imagine.

“Wait, let’s just drop this Sally ,”I said feeling my stomach growling with hunger. .Maybe we just overreacting. What if ,what we are thinking of isn’t actually what’s happening?.”

Sally raise an eyebrow. “Is that what you think ,After a weird call from your Husband ?”

“Im shocked, I don’t know friend .Let’s just forget about it for now and grab some lunch. “

We then decided to head to the Blue Marine restaurant. Where they had scrumptious seafood since that was what I was craving for. On the way we stopped to fill the gas tank.

We exchanged positions with Sally and I went to sit on the passenger seat and Sally started driving.

“How is your ankle feeling ,”asked Sally

I smiled in delight twisting my wrist and ankle lifting my foot showing her that it’s much better now.

“You see my hands work magic ,”Sally sighed looking into my eyes expecting me to say thank you .

“Okay ,okay I admit Sally thank you and I appreciate you ,”I said laughing at her . “Could you please just accelerate a little bit more I’m dying,” I said to Sally with a long face showing my desperation for food.

She then span the car in a speed of lightning . Around 3:45 pm we had finally arrived at the Blue marine restaurant .

As we walked into the restaurant, the aroma of fried seafood and melted cheese enveloped us.

A beautiful friendly woman with curly brown hair and a warm smile greeted us .Our waitress beauty was breath taking .

“Hi there ,welcome to the Blue Marine restaurant right this way please.”

We followed her to a cozy table by the window ,overlooking the beach .The sun was shining bright casting a warm glow over the restaurant.

Sally and I browsed the menu ,our tummies growling in anticipation.

Sally then opted for the mac and Cheese while I chose the pan grilled Calamari .

To drink Sally ordered a pink lemonade and I chose a sparkling water with a slice of lime . We were responsible enough to know that drinking and driving is a big no .

As we waited for our order , we had a chat about everything except Daniels strange call . But the tension lingered like an unspoken elephant in the room .

20 minutes later our waitress delivered our food . We forgot to say grace and immediately dug in like hungry lions

The calamari was tender and crispy while Sally’s mac and cheese was creamy and comforting.

Just as we were enjoying our food , I noticed a guy sitting at the bar , staring at us suspiciously ,eavesdropping on our conversation from a distance.

I nudged Sally

“Hey do you see that guy?”

Sally followed my gaze “yeah what’s his problem?”

I leaned in closer “ I think he might be watching us.”

Sally’s eyes widened “don’t you think it’s one of Daniel’s spies ?”

I nodded , my heart racing “maybe.Remember when we joked about Daniel having a spy.”

Sally’s expressions turned serious “I don’t think it’s a joke anymore.”

We exchanged a nervous glance .The tension between us palpable . Suddenly the guy at the bar looked away and pretended to be busy on his phone .

As soon as we took our eyes off him , when we turned back he was gone leaving behind a half empty Castle Lite bottle on the bar counter .A hint of suspicion hit me sending shivers down my spine.

I had a conclusion , Daniel was up to something as usual .
