The next morning, Lily met with her lawyer, her heart heavy as she prepared to make the decision that would forever change her life. The weight of Vince’s demands hung over her, and no matter how she looked at it, it seemed like the only option.

“Lily,” her lawyer began, her voice firm yet sympathetic, “this deal is our best shot at protecting both your father and your company. If Vince goes public, it’ll be the end of Carter Enterprises. You’ll lose everything you’ve worked for.”

Lily clenched her jaw, staring at the paperwork in front of her. The signature line mocked her, a permanent reminder of the decision she was about to make. “I know,” she said quietly. “But I’m not ready to give up everything I’ve built.”

Her lawyer leaned forward, folding her hands together. “I understand. But sometimes, you have to decide what’s worth more—what you’re willing to lose, and what you’re willing to fight for.”

Lily exhaled slowly, her mind reeling. She thought about everything she had worked for, every sleepless night, every sacrifice. Carter Enterprises had been her dream, her escape, her future. But now, it was at risk of being torn away. And for what? To save a man who had failed her over and over again?

But her father had built this business with his own hands. He had worked alongside her, even if his mistakes had led them here. In the end, she realized that family—despite the pain, despite the mistakes—was more important than pride.

She looked up at her lawyer. “I’ll do it. I’ll sign the deal.”

The lawyer nodded, her expression sympathetic but resolute. “I’ll arrange everything. It’ll be over soon.”

The next day, Lily made her decision official. The deal with Vince was signed, and the 20% stake of Carter Enterprises was handed over. It wasn’t what she had wanted, but it was the only choice that made sense. It was the only way to protect her father’s future and, in turn, her own.
