Chapter 2During October, the long hours spent on balancing the estate’s accounts solidified Charles’s intention into a workable scheme. Perhaps the compulsion to banish Avery’s beguiling smile from his mind’s eye while calculating expenditure and income made finding a suitable bride more of an urgent priority. Charles decided it was expedient to put aside his self-indulgent attachment. Charles wasn’t exactly ugly, or so he’d been informed, and his light brown hair and grey eyes were considered moderately pleasing amongst London society, even if he wasn’t sufficiently wealthy or well-bred to mingle amongst the haut ton. He was accustomed to plenty of physical exercise, especially now, actively engaged in full-time farming and, according to others, he gave an impression of quiet strength. H
