Chapter 1 : The Present

2440 Words
1 Realization suddenly hit me as I gaze at this area that had always given me comfort, questioning if everything that happened was all but a dream or a reality I just couldn’t find in my heart to accept As the waves of the shore hit her bare feet her anxiety grew more, as the cold breeze of that slowly approaching darkness engulf the beautifully painted sunset hits her, the pain she can no longer push back and conceal just keep coming back With all those nights she cries herself to sleep, to her constant visit to every single place that hold the memories she had with him, a small tear had manage to escape the cold wind blew it away as if trying to comfort her I stood here as I reminisce all the memories we managed to build here—good and bad alike has made rise to a strong emotion I never imagined I could ever feel, I didn’t know if I ever did anything wrong for me to deserve such a tragedy in my life—if you could call it that, its not like someone died, but the feeling was so vivid, so painful that it felt like a tragedy has occurred Feeling lost, confused and puzzled, I just don’t know what to do anymore, I just don’t know how I will rise again after everything that has happened, did everything only happen in my head? Was I just being delusional? Most of the time I just wish it were only a dream. We’re currently here at a private property which had always served as our hang out place, in the end it ended up being purchased and renovated just so we could have our own sanctuary where we could run to whenever we needed it and whenever we felt like it without anyone having to chase us out and leave the place, and we could stay for as long as we like, we could come for as late as we want, is what he said at the time What we didn’t know is that after all this time we would end up going here not for the very reason he said he’s purchased the whole lot for, but for the slightest glimmer of hope that we could find even the slightest of a clue, little traces he might have left behind that could lead us to where he is, or where he’s headed to.. He left without a warning, he left us feeling confused and puzzled, and he even freakin’ made a scene— a huge scene that shook us to the core, heck! he even made us hate him, what made it worse is that it was so realistically believable I almost got carried away with it—but I saw through all that façade, I knew deep within he could never have the heart to hurt us, when I look in his eyes I knew right away what it is he was trying to do, I saw the pain in his eyes, I saw the regret he felt while he was doing it, while he was saying all those hurtful words he left us with... And then suddenly one day, he just left—I received a call from a lawyer all of a sudden saying it was urgent, when I appeared all formal looking curious to see what this ‘urgent matter’ is I was met with a momentary surprise upon realizing who my company is that day In the meeting though, I saw Corinth and Iris sitting side by side in attendance as well, what shocked us was that he left us with a huge task, I thought at first it was a last will, that scared me to death, Jesus freaking Christ a will that as far as I am concerned only happens when well someone is at their death’s bed I suppose For a moment it’s as if all the blood in my body had momentarily ceased, for a moment I thought the worst when in fact it was just a temporary grant of access and control over all his assets and businesses he runs and owns, all of a sudden I now have a beautiful glass house to my name—I used to have nothing to my name, its ironic and sad I know but it is what it is... I now have a company to live off of from temporarily with a few other assets he’s left under my name with—the white glass house was mine to keep though, Corinth running majority of the company and all his other assets for her to manage, Iris being left with a few others of his other businesses and lesser properties he may have, upon the end of that reading left us in disbelief unable to comprehend what was happening, questioning whether we were dreaming or we really just heard what the lawyer has read through.. The end of that meeting left us questioning whether he was still alive or not, because admit it or not, who in their right mind would leave a temporary grant of access and control over one’s assets like that? We were puzzled, and now all of a sudden we had a company to run, a person to hunt down—we needed to find him before it was too late...the question is, will he let himself be found when in the first place he left us so suddenly he didn’t even say a word “You know this reminds me of a story that was told by our grandparents, which of course was told by the ‘parenterals’, it was a tragic story, but it was a story of love—an unconditional love” Corinth started Following my movement as I slowly approached her, she sat on the white rattan made love seat in a hammock design, her brown curly locks has reached her waist by now as her green orbs studies my every move I sat on the empty seat right across her taking the warm blanket by the rattan made seat identical to where she sat “what do you mean? I mean who are we talking about?” I asked confused Out of the many adventures they have, these little stories they tell out of the blue isn’t something new to her, it was always stories of the past, of their parents, of their family and the little adventures they all have as well, and of course those little mischiefs they had, this one wouldn’t be any different... They are here in the balcony of that very glass house AJ specifically had built for her, it is a three story modern white glasshouse overlooking the seaside, it was a will that would only take effect for a specified time but the house is her to keep, and when she came to see the house in question personally, she managed to find a letter—a long af handwritten letter addressed to her, and without her even looking at the sender, the handwriting gave it away, she knew right away who wrote it.. This glasshouse overlooks the beach, in one side of it was a roof deck giving a clear view of the night sky, that night they had more stars gazing upon then more than usual, the crescent moon smiles down upon them, making it a very suitable area for star gazing if they so wish to do so, but that night they choose to stay in the balcony to talk and reminisce “She was the one that got away, the one that was lost” Corinth continued And I knew this is going to be yet another long af night where I will be yet again be mesmerized by these beautiful stories she tell, it was tales of the past relieved in the words of the present, I can’t put a word for it but I just always have this warm feeling whenever I hear about them This time it was a story during the time of their grandparents that occurred probably somewhere between the year 1920s and 1930s and it is one of an acquaintance of them and the gang, his name was Zephyr, and he’s lived his life longing for the one that was lost, the one the he left only for him to find in the most unexpected place at the most unexpected time, with a gun pointed at this throat he saw the person he least expected to be there facing him…all the blood drained in his face as he recognized the one that stood before him The shock he tried so hard to mask was mirrored by the person in front of him, she was clad in a black figure hugging attire, her platinum blonde hair tied in a high pony tail, her face was covered as a pair of blue orbs stared right at him, but he knew who the lady that stood before him is, he knew her ohh too well not to recognize the lady without the need for him to unmask her, that ever so familiar presence he seemed to enjoy gave it away And before he could even say a word she began dragging his six foot three tall body to a corner with her smaller frame—away from spying eyes, and that wide eyed and panicked look she had didn’t escape his grey one’s “What in the world are you doing here Zephyr?” was what the lady in question said in disbelief, the man—Zephyr was shocked—if that was the proper word for it, even the word was an understatement upon hearing what the lady in question said to him “Shouldn’t I be asking you that very question Genevere?” the man hissed aghast finding it hard to believe that he is now face to face to the woman he had left away from all this chaos she so openly walks into The lady in question just smiled behind the mask leaving him speechless, still unable to recover from the shock of her sudden appearance, the disbelief in him upon hearing the words that comes out of the lady’s mouth, appalled by the very idea of planting herself in a very dangerous situation, he so deliberately kept her away from, he just found himself engulfing her in a warm welcoming tight embrace “Surprise? Ha ha ha ha” came the reply of the walking disaster in front of him that he can’t seem to be able to resist and get off of his mind, ohh if his grey ones couldn’t get any more bigger than it already is His brows furrowed further as he massaged his temples for her disregard of the situation, God f*****g knows how hard he tried so hard not to contact her countless of times, and how hard it had broken him having to leave the way he did only for her to walk right through the path he threaded so cautiously, God will be damned, she will be the death of him one day! He thought to himself “Dammit Genevere you’ll be the death of me one day” the man retorted, disbelieving the fact that for all this years, she probably would never change—ahh that stubborn tendencies and the troubles it cost, for that very reason was what probably attracts him to her “Well what can you do, its the very reason what got you attracted in the first place, and I know you couldn’t resist but be curious” she announced smirking at him, and he couldn’t help but smirk back at her as she spoke what he had in his mind “Indeed my dear” I smirked back at her as realization hit me, although this reunion has long been awaited, this is just not the proper time and place for this **** Listening to the story has made me relive how I first met Corinth, AJ and Iris…I just find it hard to believe that 2 years has passed since then, and that fateful meeting would lead to such a meaningful and strong friendship never in my dreams could I have… I don’t know how I ended up tangled in such a mess, the last thing I could remember was seeing a girl being harassed harshly and mockingly but a group of men, and considering the way I was raised, I couldn’t resist meddling I originally planned to just check the neighborhood where I grew up, but unexpected things would come your way every now and then, and I did the most dumbest of things I do, I ran, and grabbed her hand That of course made their attention turn towards me—and well since their attention was on her before I even stepped in, the chased us like hungry wolves surrounding their little prey running for dear life We turned to a corner I knew and was certain to be a shortcut that only a few people would know of, and since I grew up here, naturally I would know where it would lead to, it leads to a path of a garden leading to a venetian style mansion that has been rumored to house a very prominent and dignified muse with unknown past, we rarely ever catch a glimpse of her though… Panting I turned to the girl I saw, only to find her smiling at me “thanks, but you didn’t have to do that” she said smiling at me “I just couldn’t leave you be knowing what trouble could await you when I knew I can do something” I shyly told her, well she had a point and I know we could probably never outrun them, but my advantage was better than those unfamiliar new faces, heck no would I ever let regret and worry for this lady eat away at my conscience and piece of mind! “My name is Corinth btw” she revealed as a pair of Green orbs studied me “Ezschaelle” I smiled as I stared her with my blue-grey ones smiling back at her “where are we anyways?” she finally managed to ask when realization has hit her that we were now at a different place “Uhm, it’s a private property, unrelated to me but we should at least be safe here for the time being” I laughed awkwardly because admit it or not we’re trespassing, just so we could be spared
