Chapter 5

Liora My eyes snapped open immediately and for a moment, I was back in that garden. That day! The night we knew we were bonded. I stared in confusion as he tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. "You're just a Null because everyone says you are? You're not just a Null, Liora.” Oh dear goddess, he knows my name. I had shrieked in excitement. "You're a healer as well, the soldiers wouldn't do so well without their healers." I opened my mouth to protest and he shook his head on negativity. "Remember the time rogues attacked and we were almost overpowered? You tended to 14 gamma's that day. Not many people in the pack would be able to do that.” I swallowed hard. How did he know that? Why did he know that? Had he been investigating me? Paying attention to me? “And the caregiving work? It's seen as nothing but it's one of the hardest. You're…” The rest of his words seemed to blur. I couldn't quite make out what he was saying but I knew I didn't want him to stop. Not now. Maybe not ever. His hands hadn't left my face and I felt more aware of it by each passing moment. My eyes fell to his lips, dear goddess, save me. How could I have had such unholy thoughts for an Alpha? How could I have such unholy deeds with a man that wouldn't even pick me— "Are you listening to me?” He pinched my cheek and I blinked, nodding immediately. Earth to me, I have no idea what he had been saying. “Next time, don't run from me. We're fated. The goddess doesn't make mistakes. She made you for me and you're mine. No matter what anyone says. Okay?" I nodded absentmindedly, my eyes dropping to his lips again. What would they taste like if he kissed me? They looked very luscious and very…kissable? My lips parted as I kept staring. My entire body went stiff when I felt his fingers on my lips, trailing them as they were slightly parted. I felt all tingly all over. I wanted to run my hand through his hair. I wanted to know what his abs and biceps felt like. If I had a wolf, I would say she was the one doing this. Making me act like a little w***e. "Say you're mine.” He suddenly whispered and my eyes began itching. Just then, the memory slipped from under my fingers. ~ My steps faltered as the wind blew dust into my face, dragging me back into the present. There was no warmth here. No Rafael.. No promise he made, nothing. Just his betrayal, his rejection and everything in between. Just emptiness! I wrapped my arms around myself, clutching the thin fabric of my dress as I forced my feet to keep moving. A bitter smile tugged at my lips. “Next time you run, I’ll find you again.” His words echoed in my head, cruel now in a way they hadn’t been before. But I wasn't running this time, he was the one chasing me away now. Why? Why!!? The pack border was now in view and I halted, reluctant to make my way there. Goddess! I wasn't even sure what was waiting for me at the other side of the border. Would I still be treated as a null? Or even worse, a banished null? Especially the Alpha's ex mate? The guards also came to a stop as well like they were hesitant in continuing the journey. Maybe… he had changed his mind. Maybe, he had sent for me. Maybe… I bit my lips till I could taste that metallic taste again. “You’re free to go. You can find your way from here.” Fear enveloped me, my feet hurting from the king walk “That’s it? That's…you're just leaving me here?” I asked quietly, there was no expectation whatsoever in my voice but at least, it just slipped out of my tongue. “What more do you want? It's good enough the Alpha didn't even order your execution, jinx.” I didn’t even know what I wanted. An explanation? A reason? A lie that would hurt less than the truth? My fingers curled up into a fist and I let out a breath I didn't even know I was holding. I forced my feet to move, stepping past them, crossing the border without another word while they turned around and returned back to their pack. A place I once called home. I began walking with no clear indication of where I was even going. I barely took a few steps before I heard a low growl. Fear wrapped over me and I halted in my steps, the air suddenly becoming quite chilly. My breath caught in my throat as I slowly turned around. They were there. The guards hadn't left! They were now in their wolf form, circling me. My heart slammed violently against my ribs as they began to circle me, their movements slow and deliberate. You could tell what was on their mind without asking. “No…” I whispered, shaking my head as I took a step back. This… this wasn’t right. I turned sharply toward the border to tell myself I was wrong, that the guards hadn't shifted to their wolf form to attack me but they weren't there. Panic surged through me, there was no escape for me. My pulse roared in my ears as the circle tightened, their growls growing louder, more menacing. They weren’t rogues. I could tell. A horrible, sickening realization crept in. No… No, he wouldn’t— Would he? I didn't even know. He rejected me after promising me forever and severed our bond but he couldn't be this kind of monster could he? My chest tightened painfully, my vision blurring as I looked at the wolves surrounding me ready to pounce on me. “He… sent you?” I whispered, my lips trembling though no answer came. They took a step back and then lurched towards me at full speed. I shut my eyes, letting out a shrill cry as I waited for death. Rafael. wanted me dead. Not banished, dead! I HATE YOU, Rafael.. I DO!
