Quite Strength

And though the hospital was filled with noise, urgency, and exhaustion, Hector carried with him a quiet strength—the same strength he showed at home as a loving father, now reflected in his dedication as a doctor. Because for Hector, whether at home or in the hospital, caring for others was what truly defined who he was. It was already past 12 noon when Hector finally finished attending to all his patients. The once overwhelming rush in the hospital had slightly eased, but the exhaustion on his face was undeniable. He removed his gloves slowly and let out a deep breath. The long hours, the endless cases, and the emotional weight of caring for so many patients had started to catch up with him. He glanced at the clock again—12:15 PM. For the first time that day, he allowed himself to pause. Walking down the hallway, his steps were slower now. The noise of the hospital faded into the background as he made his way toward the doctor’s lounge—a small space where he could finally rest, even just for a moment. As he entered, the room was calm and quiet. He gently sat on the couch, leaned back, and closed his eyes. In that brief silence, everything caught up to him—the early morning, preparing breakfast for his children, bringing them to school, and the nonstop work at the hospital. He rubbed his temples and sighed. “Just a few minutes…” he whispered to himself. But even in his exhaustion, thoughts of his family crossed his mind. He remembered Liza’s smile during breakfast, Marco’s laughter in the car, and the peaceful sight of Alicia resting. A soft smile appeared on his face. This was why he kept going After a few moments of rest, Hector slowly opened his eyes. His body was still tired, but his heart felt lighter. He stood up, straightened his uniform, and took a deep breath. Because for Hector, rest was only temporary—there were still lives to care for, and a family waiting for him at the end of the day.Writing That afternoon, after finally finishing his duty at the hospital, Hector checked the time and immediately remembered his next responsibility—picking up his children from school. Though his body was still tired, he didn’t hesitate. For him, being there for his children was just as important as saving lives. He quickly changed, grabbed his things, and headed out of the hospital. The warm afternoon sun greeted him as he got into his car. As he drove, a sense of calm slowly replaced his exhaustion. When he arrived at the school, he saw parents waiting outside the gate. Some were chatting, others checking their phones—but Hector simply stood there, eyes focused, waiting for two familiar faces. Moments later, Marco and Liza came out, scanning the crowd . “Dad!” Liza shouted happily as soon as she saw him. Both of them ran toward him with bright smiles. Hector bent slightly and embraced them. “How was school?” he asked warmly . “It was fun!” Marco said. “I got a good score in math!” “And I had a drawing activity!” Liza added excitedly!! Hector smiled proudly. “That’s great. I’m proud of both of you.” As they walked to the car, the children continued sharing their stories—little moments from their day that meant so much to them. Hector listened attentively, nodding, smiling, and sometimes laughing along. Inside the car, the atmosphere was light and full of joy. The tired doctor from the hospital was now simply a father, enjoying every second with his children. As they drove home together, the golden sunlight filled the road ahead. And in that simple moment—just the three of them together—Hector felt a deep sense of peace. Because no matter how exhausting his day had been, coming home with his children made everything. At home, the evening brought a different kind of warmth. Alicia was already in the kitchen, busy preparing dinner for her family. The sound of chopping vegetables and the gentle clatter of pots filled the house. Despite having just come from a tiring night shift, she moved with quiet energy and a smile on her face. She wiped a bit of sweat from her forehead and continued cooking. For Alicia, this was not a burden—it was something she truly loved doing. Soon, the door opened. “Mom, we’re home!” Liza called out excitedly. Alicia turned and smiled warmly. “Welcome home! Wash your hands, dinner will be ready soon.” Hector entered behind the children, noticing Alicia in the kitchen. “You should be resting,” he said softly, walking toward her. Alicia shook her head gently. “It’s okay. I still have night duty later, so I want to make this time count with all of you.” Hector looked at her with admiration. He knew how exhausting her schedule was, yet she never failed to show love in the simplest ways. “Let me help,” he offered. Together, they finished preparing dinner—moving in harmony, like they always did. A few minutes later, the family gathered around the table once again. Laughter filled the room as they shared stories from their day.
