Chapter 1 “Marco, Liza, wake up. It’s time for school,” he said softly . Marco groaned and turned to the other side, while Liza slowly opened her eyes. Hector chuckled. “Come on, breakfast is ready.” A few minutes later, the family gathered around the table. Even though Alicia was still resting, Hector made sure to prepare a plate for her too. “Dad, thank you!” Liza said with a smile as she took a bite. “Yeah, this is good!” Marco added. Hector felt a quiet happiness in his heart. Despite his demanding job as a doctor, these small moments meant everything to him. After breakfast, he helped them get ready—checking their school bags, fixing Liza’s hair, and reminding Marco about his assignments. “Don’t forget your math notebook,” Hector said. “I won’t, Dad,” Marco replied. A few minutes later, they were on their way. Hector drove them to school, listening to their stories and laughter inside the car. It was a simple ride, but it filled his heart with warmth. After dropping them off, he looked at them as they walked into the school gates. “Study well!” he called out. “Bye, Dad!” they waved. Hector then checked the time. His clinical duty at the hospital would start soon. He took a deep breath, started the car again, and prepared himself for another long day of saving lives. But deep inside, he carried with him the joy of the morning—the laughter of his children, the quiet love in their home, and the fulfillment of being not just a doctor, but a father who always made time for his family. of all.Inside the hospital, the atmosphere was always busy and intense. Patients filled the hallways, nurses moved quickly from one room to another, and doctors focused on saving lives every minute. In the middle of it all was Hector—a skilled and compassionate doctor who was respected by everyone. “Hector, we need you in Room 3,” one of the nurses called out. “I’m on my way,” he replied calmly, already reviewing the patient’s chart in his hands. Despite the pressure, Hector never lost his composure. He approached each patient with care, speaking gently and explaining their condition in a way they could understand. “Don’t worry, you’re in good hands,” he would often say, offering reassurance with a warm smile. His kindness made a difference. Patients felt at ease around him, and even in their pain, they found comfort in his presence. Not only was he admired by patients, but also by his fellow doctors and nurse.” Even in the busiest hours, Hector always made time to listen—to his patients’ concerns, to his colleagues’ suggestions, and sometimes even to a simple thank you. There were moments when the pressure became overwhelming—emergency cases, critical conditions, long hours without rest—but Hector remained strong. For him, being a doctor was not just a profession; it was a calling. As the day went on, he continued moving from one patient to another, giving his best in every situation. And though the hospital was filled with noise, urgency, and exhaustion, Hector carried with him a quiet strength—the same strength he showed at home as a loving father, now reflected in his dedication as a doctor. Because for Hector, whether at home or in the hospital, caring for others was what truly defined who he was. It was already past 12 noon when Hector finally finished attending to all his patients. The once overwhelming rush in the hospital had slightly eased, but the exhaustion on his face was undeniable. He removed his gloves slowly and let out a deep breath. The long hours, the endless cases, and the emotional weight of caring for so many patients had started to catch up with him. He glanced at the clock again—12:15 PM. For the first time that day, he allowed himself to pause. Walking down the hallway, his steps were slower now. The noise of the hospital faded into the background as he made his way toward the doctor’s lounge—a small space where he could finally rest, even just for a moment. As he entered, the room was calm and quiet. He gently sat on the couch, leaned back, and closed his eyes. In that brief silence, everything caught up to him—the early morning, preparing breakfast for his children, bringing them to school, and the nonstop work at the hospital. He rubbed his temples and sighed. “Just a few minutes…” he whispered to himself. But even in his exhaustion, thoughts of his family crossed his mind. He remembered Liza’s smile during breakfast, Marco’s laughter in the car, and the peaceful sight of Alicia resting. A soft smile appeared on his face. This was why he kept going After a few moments of rest, Hector slowly opened his eyes. His body was still tired, but his heart felt lighter. He stood up, straightened his uniform, and took a deep breath. Because for Hector, rest was only temporary—there were still lives to care for, and a family waiting for him at the end of the day.
