Shauna

1781 Words

30 Shauna When dawn comes, I wake up pressed against Philippe’s side. His unshaven beard tickles my hair as he snores. When we were in Cabineral, we never slept together in bed. We fell asleep a few times in the forest after a picnic lunch, but never at either of our houses. Being in a bed with him, snuggled under a thick pile of blankets, is so comforting. Something I needed, and will definitely continue to need moving forward. His beard is growing in patchy little curls. The dark brown color frames his face. Now that he’s asleep, he looks so relaxed. His eyes aren’t nearly as tight, and his lips aren’t pinched. He shifts in his sleep and pulls me closer to him. My cheeks flush, and I feel a thrill of happiness in my belly. I meant what I said last night. I need Philippe on my side.
