Day 2,391 - Evening IRIS SAT IN LOTUS POSITION on the cool, damp sand staring into the forest. The moon was half-full giving off its dim light. An owl hooted; crickets and frogs performed their nightly musical number. Iris’s back was tense, hunched over, elbows resting on her thighs. She strained to hear any unwelcome noises. So far that night, no human footsteps or gunshots came from the woods. “You’ve been standing guard half the night. Let me take over for a while,” Cain said. His shadow covered half her body and the sand in front of her. Cain crouched down next to Iris. He crisscrossed his large, long legs awkwardly into a misshapen lotus. Iris glanced over, and he smiled and shrugged. “I wasn’t made for sitting like this,” Cain joked. Iris released a tense snort and smiled softly
