Day 2,408 – Cave
THE WATER WAS VERY still, and the cavern was dark. A drip, drip, drip echoed from further along one side of the cave walls. A faint blue glow bounced off the cave walls along several turns of the river, but the glow was moving away, and soon, the area would return to total darkness.
A splash and a loud gasp filled the space, followed by arms flailing and splashing and several deep breaths. Cain’s eyes darted around the cavern and landed on the dim light in the distance. He surveyed the cavern for signs of Iris.
“Iris!” he rasped. He wiped his face and tread water for a moment and then turned and swam toward the light after the creature that had Iris.
