THE SOUND OF CRASHING water thundered in the distance. Cain swam quietly and swiftly a safe distance behind the large river beast gliding along the bottom of the river. He hadn’t been able to hear anything except crashing water for the last eight chambers. The current grew stronger, suggesting that they were descending deeper down into the earth. At times, Cain had to actively swim in the opposite direction so as to not get pulled right into the giant holding Iris captive.
The blue light from the creature illuminated a tight crevasse leading toward the thundering water. Cain’s shoulders would barely fit through. If necessary, he would have dived down and swam along the bottom like the large beast had done, but he was just able to maneuver through the narrow space. After
