Day 2,376 EVA PICKED A FEW APPLE blossoms off the damp ground and stared at them for a while. She brought them closer to her face, parting her lips. The dewy blossoms hovered above her open mouth for a moment before she sealed her lips shut again. She shook her head and quickly added the blossoms to a large bunch in the front pocket of her leather knapsack. Eva glanced up to the nearest tree at some more blossoms on one of the lower branches, and her eyes followed their way up to something spherical high in the tree. She squinted but couldn’t quite make the object out. She jogged over to the bole of the tree, setting her pack on a large exposed root.
