Chapter 10: Surprise

I was driving back to the university when I got a text from Megan saying she convinced her parents to come visit me and stay with me for a night. She asked if I could come pick her up, and I said I’ll be there in about 15 minutes. I missed her. I missed everything about her. She was my party bestie even though.
Once I got to the airport, I spotted her and waved her over. She walked over to me and gave me a hug. All she had was a backpack.
“Jeez, a backpack for only one night,” I teased.
“Oh shut up,” she said. “I missed you.”
“After one day,” I asked.
We both laughed and got in the car and was driving back to the university.
“So how was your first day,” she asked.
“Let’s see,” I said. “I met a boy and kissed him.”
“Oooh.” she said.
“Then I found out today that he was cheating on his girlfriend with me and called me a fling.”
“Damn,” she said.
“His girl broke up with him, and after that, I lashed out at him in front of everyone at Stacees.”
“I wish I was here,” she said. “He would be in the hospital by the time I was done with him.”
I chuckled. “How was your first day at UNC?”
“Not as interesting as yours,” she said. “All I did was go to school and McDonalds. Nothing special there.”
“Well at least you didn’t have to deal with drama.”
“I wouldn’t mind a little drama,” she said. “It was boring. The only drama I got was ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty,’ but even that’s getting old cause I’ve watched it a million times.”
“Oh well,” I said, pulling into the school’s parking lot. “We're here.”
We got out of the car and Megan stared in awe with her jaw dropped. The campus is huge, so I’m guessing that she’s trying to wrap her head around how big it is.
“Wow,” she said.
“I know,” I said, looking at her.
She was speechless. She couldn’t find the right words. I grabbed her backpack and put it on my back because I knew that she would be standing there for a while, taking everything in. Her backpack was very heavy, but I didn’t say anything. I was letting her take it in.
