The hooded lady stepped from the hired carriage and glanced around furtively before darting into the shaded doorway of the nondescript Town house and hastily lifted the brass knocker. She tapped it against the thick door and waited anxiously, blowing on her glove less fingers to warm them against the chilly November air. There was a slight shuffle from within and then the door slowly opened, and a thin wrinkled face peered suspiciously through the open crack. "Is he inside?" she asked the man, presumably the butler, her voice the cultured accent of the English aristocracy. She pulled back the hood a little so he could see her face.
