Laurel wiped her eyes and left the room, moving slowly along the hallway, her mind in turmoil. They had been married for less than a day and already, she had managed to displease him by her words. She sniffed back fresh tears, wishing she could talk to Amelia about her marital problems, however, she realized that Thomas would not be pleased if he discovered her doing so. She paused before the door leading into the kitchen and took a deep breath, collecting her thoughts and her wits, then stepped in to the warm enclave.
