The Human Luna

Rita’s POV The heavy blackness slowly faded, pulling me back toward consciousness. Pain throbbed through my body, but it was dull now—tolerable. My wolf paced restlessly in my head, nudging me to wake up. I finally opened my eyes and the first thing I sensed was him. My mate. His scent wrapped around me like a warm blanket, instantly calming both me and my wolf. I blinked a few times, my vision clearing until I noticed the familiar room. A large photo of Ken hung on the wall, his smile bright and carefree. Ken’s bedroom… I’m safe. The memories came rushing back all at once—the red-hat man, the silver knife, the pain, the dark factory… and then Ken’s voice calling out for me through the chaos. My chest tightened. Greta stood near the bedroom door, checking something on her tablet. The moment Ken saw that my eyes were open, his worried face lit up with relief. He rushed to my side and before I could even speak, he pulled me into a careful hug. My wolf purred in satisfaction. It was the first real hug we had ever shared. All the previous ones had been quick and awkward, barely lasting a second. This one was different—slow, warm, real. The mate bond thrummed between us, soothing the last remnants of my fear. I melted into him. But confusion filled me too. He always hesitated when it came to physical closeness. I never knew why. Was it his past? Fear? Or something else? Whatever the reason, my wolf craved him desperately. She wanted him. The sound of something breaking outside shattered our moment. Ken stiffened and immediately pulled away. “I’ll check,” he said before rushing out. Within minutes, the room filled—Shelly, Sam, Logan, Greta… and Ken again. Shelly and Sam hugged me tightly, relief written all over their faces. Logan stepped closer and gently patted my head, his Alpha presence calm yet alert. “I’m fine now,” I assured them softly. “Really.” Through the mindlink, I informed them that I would explain everything once we returned to the pack. Logan spoke quietly to Greta before she nodded and left. “Your family doctor is amazing,” Ken told Sam, pointing at the fading wounds on my arm. “I don’t know what she gave her, but the healing is unbelievably fast. Hardly any scars left.” If only you knew… It wasn’t the medicine. It was my wolf blood. Guilt twisted inside me. Ken’s gaze softened before turning serious. “Rita… what really happened? Why did they kidnap you?” My throat went dry. What was I supposed to say? That a rogue wolf wanted to use me? That my world was filled with secrets and danger? I panicked and mindlinked the others for help. Shelly stepped forward first. “You know we work for a high-profile company,” she said smoothly. “Rita handles important data. They must be rivals trying to get information from her. Right, Rita?” I nodded quickly. Ken frowned. “To this extent?” “We’ll report this,” he added firmly. “NO!” all of us said together. His eyes moved from one face to another, clearly suspicious. “That’s exactly why I want you both to stay with us for a few days,” Logan said with quiet authority. “On my property, no one will dare to touch you. You’ll be safe.” Thank you, Alpha. Inside, my wolf howled in relief. With Derick still out there, I couldn’t risk Ken being alone. I mindlinked Logan my gratitude. Don’t thank me, his voice replied. I won’t leave my mate here either. Mate? My heart skipped. I stared at Logan in shock. “How did you—? When? Who?” The words slipped out before I realized Ken was standing right beside me. He looked confused. Kiya is my mate. Your future Luna, Logan’s voice echoed in my mind. “Kiya?” I whispered aloud. Ken looked around. “She went out earlier… she’s not here.” I had never met her in person, yet I had always longed to. Ken loved her deeply. If she was truly Logan’s mate… everything was about to change. --- Later, after some convincing, Ken finally agreed to come with us to the pack for a few days. He was packing in the living room while I rested on the couch. Kiya had messaged him not to call—said she was busy with something important. Logan, however, grew more restless with every passing second. “She won’t pick up,” Ken muttered while folding his clothes. “She already texted me. I’ll have to go to her place myself and explain everything.” “I’m coming with you,” Logan said immediately. Ken looked up, startled. “With me?” Logan’s eyes darkened with determination. “Yes.” Somewhere deep inside, I smiled. Because fate had already begun to move its first powerful piece.
