Rita POV
It was almost a three-hour drive from the city to the pack territory.
The sky was still wrapped in darkness when we finally reached. The tall trees, silent roads, and the cool night air felt unfamiliar yet comforting. Sam and Logan had already mind-linked the pack about the arrival of humans, so only two pack members in human form were waiting near Sam’s house when we arrived.
The Alpha and Beta had their own separate houses. The biggest one, standing tall and majestic at the center, was obviously the Alpha’s. Sam’s house stood next to it — large and welcoming. I had my own home as Gamma, but I chose to live in the pack house because being surrounded by my pack always gave me peace.
But now things were different.
Ken and Kiya couldn’t stay in the pack house… not until they knew the truth about us.
As the two guards unloaded Ken’s luggage and took it inside Sam’s house, Ken stood near the porch, his eyes constantly moving toward the empty road — waiting for the other car.
Waiting for Kiya.
Sam shifted on his feet nervously before speaking.
“Uh… they’re not coming here,” he said hesitantly. “We had only one extra room, so we arranged for Kiya to stay at a different house.”
Ken stiffened at once.
“Where?”
“At the Alpha’s house.”
The moment those words left Sam’s mouth, I stepped forward and gently held Ken’s arm to pull his attention to me before he could ask anything more.
“Ken, it’s not far,” I assured softly. “Just three or four blocks away. Trust me… she will be fine.”
His eyes met mine. For several long seconds, the world around us faded away. The bond hummed gently between us, warmth spreading through my chest. Neither of us realized how close we had moved until Sam cleared his throat loudly.
Ken immediately stepped back.
My wolf whined in disappointment.
But for now, we were grateful for one thing — we had both made it back safely. My mate was inside the pack territory. Safe. Protected. Close.
My heart finally felt at ease.
Shelly stood at the door and smiled.
“Come, I’ll show you the room.”
We followed her inside Sam’s house. It was a cozy two-storey home. My room was right next to Ken’s, separated only by a wall. Just knowing he would be sleeping so close tonight made my wolf restless.
The night had already grown deep, and exhaustion settled into our bones.
We went into our rooms.
As soon as I lay down, sleep refused to come easily.
I tossed and turned, staring at the ceiling, imagining how it would feel to sleep in his arms… to feel his warmth, to breathe in his scent, to cuddle beside him through the night. My wolf was running wild with thoughts, urging me to sneak into his room.
But I controlled her.
We had waited so long.
We could wait a little longer.
Soon… very soon.
