Rita’s POV
I woke up early the next morning with a dull ache in my body, but my wolf was restless. Yesterday’s events still played in my mind like a broken record. I freshened up and made my way to Logan’s office where Sam was already present.
The atmosphere inside the room was tense.
“We still need to discuss the details of my k********g,” I said, taking a seat opposite them.
Logan leaned back in his chair, his sharp eyes never leaving my face. “Tell us everything. Don’t leave out a single detail.”
I took a deep breath. “He kept asking about something called a Grimoire.”
The moment the word left my mouth, Logan’s entire body stiffened. The air in the room shifted instantly.
“What the hell is that?” Sam asked, clearly confused.
“I asked him the same thing,” I replied quietly. “But whatever it is, he wants it desperately.”
Sam turned to Logan. “Do you know anything about it?”
Logan completely ignored his question and instead looked back at me. “Was that the only thing he asked for?”
“No,” I answered, swallowing hard. “Derick said he wanted to send you a message… by killing me. He said he will get what he needs, no matter the cost.”
Anger flashed violently in Logan’s eyes, his fists clenching on the table.
“But he wasn’t there when we attacked the factory,” Sam pointed out.
“After injecting silver into me so I would die a slow and painful death, he left and ordered his men to keep injecting me little by little,” I said, my voice trembling slightly. “If you people hadn’t arrived on time… I wouldn’t have survived.”
Both Sam and Logan went deadly silent.
“When I was in the parking lot,” I continued, “he suddenly appeared in front of me. I was talking on the phone with the pack member who was assigned to stalk him. He had informed me that Derick was still at his workplace. And then… suddenly Derick was right in front of me. My phone slipped from my hand in shock.”
I closed my eyes briefly, reliving the fear.
“He threatened to kill my mate if I made a single move. He said one of his men was already inside the restaurant, waiting for his signal. That’s when he injected me.”
Sam frowned deeply. “How can he be in two places at the same time?”
“There was one more thing,” I said slowly. “I couldn’t pick up his scent. All of his men had their scent—but he didn’t. Even when he stood that close to me, I couldn’t sense him at all.”
Sam’s eyes widened. “Could he have a twin brother?”
“No,” I replied firmly. “From everything we’ve gathered about his past, he doesn’t.”
I turned to Logan, who was lost in deep thought. “Alpha… what should we do now?”
His eyes turned cold, decision already made. “Tighten security around the pack borders. No one enters or leaves without verification.”
He then looked at Sam. “Arrange a meeting with the Alpha of the Black Water Pack.”
Sam nodded immediately. “It will be done.”
........
Later That Morning
Shelly and Ken had already arrived at Logan’s house for breakfast. Kiya was still asleep, so Ken went to check on her.
After a few minutes, he returned with a soft chuckle.
“She’s not a morning person. We can start—she’ll join later.”
We all took our seats at the long dining table. Logan’s cook, Melisa, had prepared an elaborate breakfast under Logan’s instructions. The food smelled heavenly.
From the corner of my eyes, I noticed Logan’s gaze occasionally drifting toward the staircase—waiting for his mate to appear.
I smiled inwardly. Even the mighty Alpha was impatient when it came to his mate.
I was eager to meet Kiya too. We were supposed to meet at the café yesterday… but fate had other plans.
“So, Ken,” Shelly began casually, breaking the silence, “tell us something about yourself.”
Ken glanced at me and then answered, “I completed my degree at university, and after my father passed away, I inherited the family business. I’ve been handling it ever since.”
“What about your sister?” Shelly asked with a curious smile. “She seemed pretty smart yesterday—the way she tracked the location and everything. Isn’t she planning to join the business too?”
Ken chuckled. “She’s a genius when it comes to technology. She prefers computers and gadgets over board meetings. You know how teenagers are these days.”
Logan listened closely, his attention visibly fixed on every detail about Kiya.
I leaned back slightly, watching him with amusement.
My Alpha… completely smitten with his mate already.
