The Black Wolf

700 Words
Logan’s POV The location from Rita’s phone led us straight to an abandoned factory near the city outskirts. The humans who shared the location were smart enough not to inform the cops—exactly what I had hoped for. Humans always depended on the law. We depended on blood and loyalty. Every pack member’s life was my responsibility. And Rita was my Gamma. My spine. My friend. Nothing was going to happen to her. Not while I was breathing. “They’re here,” Sam said darkly, pointing at a familiar car parked carelessly near the entrance. Rita’s car. Rage exploded inside me. “What are we waiting for?” I growled. “Kill them.” My warriors followed without hesitation. The moment I stepped inside the factory, the stench of blood and fear hit my senses. Three men rushed toward us. I grabbed the nearest one by his throat and slammed him against the wall. A sickening c***k echoed. His body dropped lifelessly. Leo surged forward. I shifted. The world blurred in a flash of bone and fire as my massive black wolf tore through the remaining men. Their screams filled the air for only seconds before they were drowned in blood. Then— I saw her. Rita. Chained to the wall in silver chains. Weak. Injured. Barely conscious. A furious roar ripped from my chest. Leo charged forward, tearing another man apart as Sam, still in human form, rushed to Rita and tried breaking the chains. Then— A scent hit me. Sweet. Warm. Intoxicating. Leo snapped his head toward the entrance. A human male came running inside… Straight toward Rita. Behind him… a girl followed. The moment her presence registered in my senses— My world shattered. Mate. She is our mate. Leo’s entire body stiffened. “MINE,” he growled. --- Kiya’s POV The moment we ran inside— I saw her. Rita. Chained to the wall. Blood on her skin. Ken let out a broken cry and shoved the man beside her away. He rushed to her, his hands shaking as he removed the chains. Rita collapsed against him. The man turned toward Ken with murder in his eyes. Without thinking, I pulled out my pepper spray and sprayed him straight in the face. “My eyes—damn it, woman!” he screamed, dropping to the ground in pain. Then— A warning growl sounded behind me. Slow. Deep. Inhuman. My body went stiff. Something brushed against my hand. Soft. Warm. Fur. I turned. And my soul left my body. A huge black wolf stood right behind me—blood dripping from its mouth, eyes glowing in the darkness. “Aaaahhhhh!” I screamed and stumbled back. My legs gave way and I fell hard to the floor. The pepper spray slipped from my hands. “Oh my god… oh my god…” I whispered frantically, my whole body trembling in terror. The wolf stepped closer. Its eyes locked onto mine. And then— Everything stopped. Fear vanished. A strange warmth spread through my chest. A beautiful, unfamiliar fragrance filled my lungs. For one terrifying second… I felt safe. Ken’s scream shattered the moment. “Oh s**t, KIYAAA!” He rushed to me, pulled me up, and I hid behind him like a terrified child. Another huge wolf suddenly charged at the black wolf. But in a single move, the black wolf slammed the other one to the floor and pinned it down effortlessly. Only then did I notice— Two dead bodies on the ground. Two massive wolves watching in the shadows. Blood. Growls. Death. Ken shaken me violently. “Kiya! We need to get out! NOW!” He picked up Rita in his arms and ran. I followed blindly. We burst outside and sprinted to the car. My hands shook so badly I could barely hold the keys. Another growl echoed from behind us—close enough to feel in my bones. The door finally opened. Ken placed Rita in the back seat. I jumped into the driver’s seat. And drove. Without looking back. Leaving behind the screams, the blood, the wolves… And the pair of burning eyes that felt strangely, terrifyingly familiar.
