The White Wolf Rises

1051 Words
Darkness. Cold. Silent. Then, a sudden, blinding warmth, like sun hitting snow, erupted in the blackness. Love felt a rush of air in her lungs. Her body jerked, violently. She gasped, pulling in a ragged, life-affirming breath. She was lying on the floor of Ethan's opulent bedroom. Her body was excruciatingly heavy. Her neck throbbed. She tentatively reached up. Her head was tilted, still impossibly askew. But as she watched, the muscles screamed, the bones grated, and with a sickening, wet sound, her neck snapped back into place. Love choked, scrambling backward until her back hit the cold wall. I... I died.AGAIN! Lexa’s Voice A voice, soft, melodic, and overwhelming in its sudden presence, filled the void in her mind. “Welcome back, Love.” Love’s eyes filled with stunned, disbelieving tears. “Lexa?” she whispered, the name a raw plea. “Is that… really you?” “It is me,” Lexa affirmed, her voice resonating with ancient love and immense power. “I am here. And I am furious.” The oppressive, choking silence of the past weeks was gone. Love felt the familiar, immense warmth of her White Wolf presence surging through her soul. “The bracelet… the spell… how?” Love asked, touching the obsidian cuff on her wrist. It still felt cold, but muted. Lexa chuckled—a deep, resonant sound. “The witch’s spell was designed to suppress living magic, Love. When Ethan’s act forced your spirit to temporarily leave your body, you achieved true death.” “The spell broke its anchor. The moment your White Wolf blood revived you, the shackles became mere decoration.” Love looked down at the bracelets. They were inert. Powerless. A wave of overwhelming, vengeful relief washed over her. She was free. She scrambled to her feet. The adrenaline of freedom was immediate. The wedding! I have to stop the wedding! She flung open the heavy door to Ethan’s room and bolted down the service corridor. She was running on instinct, fueled by desperate purpose, when she slammed into a figure coming around the corner. They both stumbled, falling against the cold stone wall. "Watch it, Omega! Get your rankless hands off me!" the figure slurred, pushing her away. Love froze. The voice was familiar, yet twisted. She looked at the person who had once been Lulu. Lulu was unrecognizable. Her uniform was torn and filthy. Her eyes were bloodshot and clouded, rimmed with dark, bruised circles. Her hair was matted, and her small, slight frame was painfully thin. Lulu was clutching a small, glass vial—a vial Love recognized instantly: A concentrated, cheap version of Bloodlust Tincture. The very substance Alphas used to dull guilt and enhance dominance. Lulu was using it to cope. "Lulu? What... what have you done?" Love whispered, her heart aching with profound grief. Lulu stared back, her expression numb, then slowly—painfully—a flicker of recognition sparked in her dull eyes. "L-Love? You... you died. They said the rogues took you. They said you ran..." "I'm here, Lulu. I'm back," Love insisted, pulling her friend into a fierce, necessary hug. The Reckoning and the Rest Lulu clung to her, shaking. "my parents, Love... they fought the rogues some months ago. They died that night. I... I couldn't handle the silence." The devastation of the news hit Love like a physical blow. The shame of her escape, the guilt of her survival, fueled a white-hot core of vengeance. "Serena and the Luna," Love grated, her voice raw. "They are responsible for all of this." Lulu recoiled from the rage, fear clouding her eyes. "Love, you can't fight them. They're too strong. They're all gathering for the wedding... Alpha Marcus, the Luna, the witch..." The word "wedding" slammed Love back to reality. The clock. "The time, Lulu! How long until the ceremony ends?" "It began an hour ago," Lulu whispered. "They're moving to the Grand Hall for the Vows and the Feast now. It won't be long." Love felt a profound wave of weakness. Her resurrected body was still critically depleted from the nightly blood draining. She was free, but she was fragile. "I need to recover my strength, Lulu," Love said, Lexa confirming the urgency internally. "The full extent of my Hybrid power needs time to recharge after the death. I can't face the entire Pack like this." Lulu, despite her haze, nodded urgently. "The old maintenance basement. It's safe. No one goes there." Lulu guided Love through a network of dark, forgotten tunnels, her small, trembling hand the only tether Love had to safety. They reached a damp, forgotten room beneath the kitchens. "I'll stand guard," Lulu offered, suddenly clear-headed in her mission to protect her friend. "Rest, Love. Get strong. You're our only hope now." Hours passed in a blur of restorative silence. Love sank into the darkness, drawing strength from the earth. Lexa worked tirelessly, repairing the damage, forcing the White Wolf power to surge through her veins. When Love finally opened her eyes, the difference was immediate and absolute. Her body pulsed with controlled power. The raw, desperate hunger was gone, replaced by a cold, surgical focus. Her eyes, no longer haunted, burned with a fierce, luminous grey—the full, unrestrained light of the Hybrid Queen. She stood up, testing her strength. It was immense. Absolute. She reached up, and with a simple, fierce clench of her wrist, the obsidian bracelets shattered into dust. Love found Lulu huddled in the corner, shaking. "The wedding feast will be ending soon," Love stated, her voice resonating with an authority Lulu had never heard. She took Lulu's hands, her gaze soft, yet terrifyingly determined. "I am going to end this tonight. But you are running now, Lulu. You deserve safety." Lulu’s eyes, still bloodshot, filled with desperate tears. "I can't go back out there. I'll die on the streets, Love. Let me stay." Love pulled Lulu close. "I need you to run with me, Lulu. Not for my protection, but for your future." "We will burn this Pack down, but we will leave together. You and me. For your parents. For all the victims." Lulu looked at the glowing eyes of the resurrected Omega. Her true friend. Her Queen. "Yes, Love. We run together. After the fire."
