As Reginald Mack wheeled into the study, his eyes fell on his wife. She was holding a cup of coffee and her green eyes were staring fixed at the floor but there was nothing there. She was probably lost in thoughts. His gaze fell on her button nose and drifted down to her lips as she sipped from the cup. Before he could open his mouth to announce his presence, her eyes landed on him. Her eyes instantly became angry but her lips curled up in a mocking smile. "Leaving again for a few days?" She asked with voice laced heavily in sarcasm. He remained quiet for sometime, careful not to say something that would piss her off even more. "I will be back soon." He replied trying to tread carefully. She scoffs, "soon?" The look in her eyes changed. "That's what you always say and then you leave for weeks!" She was panting, "I have no idea what you do and where you go, all you f*****g say is you'll be back soon!" Her green eyes shone with anger and unshed tears. "Soon!" She screamed furiously, throwing her cup at his legs. Growing up in a family where the male were always given preferential treatment, she had managed to work her way up to the top, surpassing her brother. She was at the peak of her career, widely known and sort for. But all that was three years ago. She had singlehandedly built her company by working her ass off day and night. Eventually, her hardwork bagan to pay off and she rose to the top. Trying her best to be a capable and worthy heir for her family fortunes, she wasn't concerned with the hardship she had to face. Perhaps, she thought if she worked hard enough, gender biases wouldn't matter, but she had been very wrong. Her family, unhappy with her growth while her brother was still way behind her decided to manipulate her into marrying a disabled man. Her grandmother had called her one evening, and told her stories of a very famous warlord, how he had won series of battles in and outside the country. She successfully manipulated Lily into marrying a comatosed and disabled man. Lily realised that it was to hinder her success so her brother could secure more wealth. She had become a laughing stock among prominent families and all her hardwork began to seem useless. Not once, has she blamed Reginald for her grandmother's deceit but she was honestly tired of him keeping things away from her. Once in every month, he would leave the house and become unreachable for days. He didn't leave a hint of where he went or what he was doing. She knew he could no longer go to work due to his disability, but he always managed to vanish and remain untraceable, only coming back when he was done with his "business". Whenever he left, tens of thousands would vanish from the account, this kept on happening for months. Whenever she asked about it, he would always try to worm his way out of it. For three good years, she had managed to put up with it, for three years, she tried to hold it all in, ignoring the pain it has caused and the ridicule she was constantly hurled with but she couldn't anymore. This wasn't the life she had planned for herself, this wasn't what she had bargained for. It wasn't his fault that she was manipulated into marrying him, it was all her grandmother's but that didn't excuse him acting the way he did in their marriage. She was honestly tired of living like this, she wasn't just a shadow of her former self, she was worse. He sighed, "Lily, I know how you feel but.." the cup hits his leg shattering in the process. He felt a dull pain where he was hit but he remained silent. He understood that she was hurt and angry, so he kept quiet. He was useless, he couldn't walk, all he did was to weigh her down and limit her. If only they meant years ago when he was still the gallant war lord that was greatly feared. The mention of his name would make his enemy quiver in fear. No one dared wage war against him, his war strategies were never wrong or so he thought until three years ago. A war had broken out and he as usual was the head commander. He made plans and deployed his men to certain areas. Unfortunately, he was ambushed and surrounded by the enemies. It was a battle of wits and strength, both he had and were his greatest strength. He had succeeded in the battle but ended up sacrificing both his legs in the war. He barely made it out alive, he was shot in the head and chest. Luckily, the bullet missed vital parts of his brain while the other bullet in his chest was lodged in a rib. He survived, but he couldn't use his legs anymore. He had to rely on wheelchairs for movement. For a fleeting second, Lily's eyes went wide with guilt as she stared at the shards of glass lying around him. But she cleared her throat and looked at him in the eye. "Where are you going, Reginald?" She asked folding her arms underneath her breasts. He turned not saying a word of reply. "Not this time, you're not leaving this time without telling me where you're going." She walked towards him avoiding the shards of glass lying on the floor. "I need to know everything, from where you go and what you do." She stood facing him, blocking the door of the study. "Lily, I will be bac-" "Don't you dare say soon!" She snapped. "I'm tired of hearing it," She heaved. Moving away from the door, she kicked it shut. "You're going to tell me what you do whenever you leave the house, why money is always disappearing, and why on earth are you always unreachable when you leave?" Her eyes were hard, they demanded answers. She parted her lips, and her next words made Reginald's heart to sink. "Tell me or we'd get a divorce,” she threatened.
