Reginald stared at his wife with emotional eyes, he hadn't wished for things to escalate quickly today, he knew she was getting fed up with having to take care of a fully grown disabled man, but he wanted her to give him some time. "I understand that you're angry, but if you'll just give me sometime, I wi-" She cut un angrily, saying, "We both know that's a lie. I'm not asking you to, I'm demanding that you better speak or we get divorced." Reginald stayed silent for sometime deciding what to say. "Cat's got your tongue?" She said tauntingly despite the hints of tears in her eyes. She was in despair but he couldn't disclose what he was doing. Now was not the time. He looked at her dead in the eye and said, "Knowing too much is not beneficial to you." As the words escaped his mouth, he regretted it instantly but there was nothing else he could say. Her eyes widen in shock. "So it's true, isn't it?" Tears pooled in her eyes as she kept mumbling and nodding to herself. He was confused. "What's true?" He asked. The tears spilled out of her eyes dropping slowly on her smooth cheek. She shook her head as the tears continuously spilled out. "It's true," she sniffled "I've been a fool." She cried running her hand through her hair. She hadn't packed it in a bun as usual, she had allowed it fall on her shoulders. Her fingers laced through her hair, ruffling the curls and giving it a messy look. She rested other hand lazily on her hip, and said weakly, "The rumours are true, indeed you have a mistress." Her voice broke. Reginald was stunned. Mistress? "You leave every month to be with her and what's worse is that you spend my hard earned money on her too!" She was sobbing uncontrollably. "You're my wife, Lily. I'd never do that to you," He said in a bid to console her. "You are the woman I'm married to and you will always be." She glared at him. "Married?" She scoffed, "Wife?" She eyed him from head to toe before shouting, "You don't have any right to say that to my face!" Hatred and regret swam in her eyes. Reginald wheeled towards her in an attempt to console her. “Please, listen to me, Lily-" "Don't you dare Lily me!" She snapped moving out of his reach. "You have no right to say my name out of that filthy mouth." Her body shook with anger. "You call me your wife yet you don't act like it. You spend my hard earned money on another and then treat me as a mistress." Her words pierced his heart but he chose to ignore them, wanting to console her. But Lily was not done, she went on. "Just so you know," she wiped her tears with her sleeve and continued, "A man who does nothing to provide but relies solely on me is not worthy to be called my husband." Reginald was torn. "To be worthy of that title, you must be my hero, you must be someone I can rely on and look up to." Her voice broke towards the end. "But you're neither, I can't lean on you," her gaze flickered to his disabled legs. "You can't even rely on yourself." She wiped her tears but they kept on dropping. "Instead, you've made me a laughing stock." She let out a strangled laugh. "First for your disability and then for making me your mistress and money donor." She heaved. "I'm sorry," was all Reginald could say but she wasn't listening. Reaching inside her dress, she pulled out a necklace, "You don't have to worry, I'm not in love with you and I never will." Her fingers softly caressed the necklace fondly. Reginald raised a brow watching her treat the necklace better than she had ever done him. Her gaze was soft as she stared at it. "You may wonder why, but I'm in love with another man." Her lips curved up in a smile. Happiness radiated on her tear-stained face, and her eyes glistened as she stared at the necklace, not once sparing Reginald a glance. "He is my hero, he saved me in a battle field and he was putting on something similar to mine. He left it behind," She was speaking more to herself than him but he could hear every word clearly. "I fell in love with him instantly." She smiled. "Not once did he get scared when he rescued me. I'm alive today all thanks to his bravery." She allowed the necklace carefully rest on her neck and Reginald's eyes fixed on it. It looked very familiar like one he used to own. His eyes widened as the scene of the battle became very vivid in his mind again. He recalled carrying her in his arms and taking her to a place where she would be safe and protected from attacks. She was light as feather and her hips were just as curvy as he remembered. She was the girl he had rescued that day, but she didn't seem to remember him. She was looking all scared and lost that day but on seeing him, she had held her pen to him asking whether he was friend or foe. Without replying he showed her his flag and she nodded. She was not injured but she was shakened from the trauma of what she had seen. He had picked her up and hurried to a safer place. He recalled how her body made him feel things he shouldn't feel when he was at war, but there was something about her, she had wrapped her arms tightly around his neck and weirdly enough, he didn't want her to let go either. "Just so you'd know Reginald, I can't love you," her eyes went hard again. "I would never love you." She added looking hard at him. She was hurt. How was he going to tell her that he'd lost a similar necklace in the heat of a battle?
