Elena's POV The night was heavy, soaked in darkness. The cold wind bit painfully at my face. I walked against the chill for several blocks until I found a small store still lit on a quiet corner. By the time I had bought a new phone, it was near midnight. The street was silent except for the low buzz of the streetlights, casting my shadow long and thin. Lyra exploded inside me, her fur bristling. "Elena, run! Danger!" I smelled it, too— A foul stench of decaying earth mixed with stale blood. Rogues.
